Requiem for Atlantic Avenue Hunchback

Most residents and passersby did not know Nicholas Hernandez, who died Monday, by name. They might have referred to him as the “Hunchback of Atlantic Avenue”. Today, a makeshift memorial appeared in front of the New Island Deli where Hernandez slept frequently.

Park Gets Solar Charging Station

Brooklyn Bridge Park’s electric powered vehicles can now use a solar charging station (see two of them getting juiced up in the photo) donated to the Park by Brooklyn-based Beautiful Earth Group, a sustainable energy company. This is the first solar powered vehicle charging station in New York City.

Mr. J. Views Press Conference on Waterfront Initiative

Our man with cam was on hand at Pier 1 of Brooklyn Bridge Park this morning for Mayor Bloomberg’s and City Council Speaker Quinn’s press conference on the City’s new waterfront plan, as was a crowd of about 100, who endured a brief snow flurry as Hizzoner spoke. Video after the jump.
