Are they still contemplating the option of tunneling the BQE underground thru the Heights? Seems to me that would be a huge improvement, even if it takes 20 years.

Grateful: so far as I know, everything, including tunneling, is still under consideration. There are a couple of tunnel proposals that wouldn’t go under the Heights. One would go under the East River, and another would go under parts of Fort Greene and Downtown Brooklyn: http://brooklynheightsblog.com/archives/21630

    What Claude said.

However, how long will the triple cantilever remain standing? If there isn’t a reconstruction-slash-replacement-slash-alternative by then, there is going to be an awful lot of highway traffic looking for somewhere else to go.

And here we’re scheduled for a major earthquake. Can the aging BQE stand a 5.0+?

(Sorry, forget where I read about the quake. It was that Metro paper, I think.)

The BQE is probably as prepared to survive a 5.0+ as much of Brooklyn is.
