Sounded like a big emergency response to something nearby around 8:30 last night. Possibly a fire on Columbia Heights? Anybody know anything?

A proposal to add a coffee kiosk to the promenade is seeking community input.

I think it’s a great idea. Why not? So many locals and NYC guests are there I am sure they can do brisk business.

Didn't we already go through this discussion? What happened to the original kiosk, run by (disabled?) veterans?

  • Andrew Porter

Pierrepont, Remsen and State closed east of Henry today, while they repaved Clinton. Then Montague west of Henry closed while Con Ed replaced a cable. Result: traffic chaos!

Not in favor of starting down the slippery slope of commercializing the Promenade.

  • Banet

This is not for a kiosk on the Promenade or at the foot of Remsen (as the old experiment was located) — it's for using the lawn space adjascent to the Pierrepont playground.

Personally, I prefer that space gets a few picnic tables and gets opened up for birthday parties to use.

Anyone know the story about the 3 govt-surplus Suburbans with NH plates and always parked on the street in vicinity of State/Clinton intersection?

  • clarknt67

Glad they finally got to resurfacing it. They pulled up the old asphalt weeks ago. I don’t know why the city finds it so hard to resurface promptly after pulling up the old asphalt but it happens a lot.

  • Bornhere

There was a fire on Columbia Place in the donut shop around that time.

  • Jorale-man

Exactly, and with the drought, it had made Clinton a dusty mess. It would be nice if they'd take this opportunity to make the bike lane protected from the rest of traffic but somehow I don't see the political will to make that happen.

  • Banet

Oh no! They spent so much time renovating that place. Was it bad?

  • Peter Scott-Thomas

A camera photo might help. Seriously – there might be someone who'll say, "Yeah – those are [answer] vehicles."

  • Jorale-man

PSA – A small-bore issue here as our society is poised to collapse, but please remember to encourage your super or building owner to wash and sweep your sidewalks. They're looking/smelling worse than ever this week.

They have finally (!!!) taken down the steel for the sidewalk shed around 100 Clark Street, from all 4 sides—Henry, Clark, Cadman Plaza, Pineapple Walk—and the exposed building looks curiously naked. Much work done to spruce up the exposed Gristede's windows, and the sidewalk plantings on Clark.

When I first moved here, that entire block was a rubble-filled wasteland.

  • Nosey Neighbor

Residents in that building have also been without gas for weeks. Article says the city owns the building. I didn’t know that

FYI the city & state are recommending sweeping only (not washing) due to the drought. This is voluntary, not mandatory. It's a catch-22 b/c the drought is what's causing the grime (& worse) to accumulate. Nevertheless, judicious spot-washing (and not 10 mins of constant spraying like some supers do) seems appropriate…

  • Cranberry Beret

btw they're private vehicles now – at least a couple have former MTA markings that have been scraped off.

It's not unusual to see surplus police cruisers etc on the streets. What is odd is that there are 3 of them all at the same spot, all with New Hampshire plates. So presumably all the same owner.

  • Cranberry Beret

Article is wrong. Building is privately owned.

  • Jorale-man

Good points. The weather forecast right now says "showers likely" on Sunday night. These things have a way of never materializing but fingers crossed.

  • MaggieO

    oh no! the donuts!!!

  • Effective Presenter

It had been 2004 that 100 Clark Street tenants had been evacuated due to the buildings dangerous condition it was about to collapse.

Several vulnerable long time tenants lost their homes.

  • Effective Presenter

    Not a NYC owned building

in the old days Brooklyn Union Gas would have had the gas restored as soon as possible.

National Grid will not move as fast as BUG would have.

  • Effective Presenter

    Yes you are correct.

  • Effective Presenter

We agree NOT a good idea.

    Claude

This is among your greatest pictures.

  • Andrew Porter

Sorry, I meant 101 Clark, not 100 Clark, the small building across the street. Post corrected.

  • Banet

But the sidewalk shed is finally gone around 100 Clark (on the corner of Monroe) as well!

Dare I hope? Is the Bossert next????

Thank you. It was pure luck that we had that spectacular a sunset. What you see is just what my iPhone camera captured; no editing.
