Joralemon Partially Closed for Trick-or-Treating Tomorrow

According to the NYC Department of Transportation website a large number of Brooklyn streets will be entirely or partially closed tomorrow (Thursday, October 31) for some period of time in order to facilitate Halloween trick-or-treating. The only street in Brooklyn Heights affected is Joralemon, from Hicks down to Furman. It will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. The closure is at the behest of the Willowtown Association.

It seems so odd that, with all of the activity on Garden Place, they'd not close Joralemon at Henry. I know they've done it in the past, and this seems so half- …. measured.

Normally, Joralemon from Henry to Hicks is closed, ergo Garden Place is closed off too. I can’t imagine that is not happening this year

The most dangerous street on Halloween, in my opinion, is Hicks between State and Grace Court. There are lots of great displays in the carriage houses on Hicks, creating lots of crowds that overflow into the street but cars still zoom up Hicks after getting off the BQE even on Halloween.

A big pedestrian bottleneck is the East side of Hicks between Joralemon and Grace Court Alley where the crowds from Garden Place, Hicks St Carriage Houses, and Grace Court Alley pumpkin display all meet.

    Be safe out there!

The closure of Joralemon from Henry to Hicks historically has been done by NYPD directly, so separate from this DOT-sponsored "trick or treat streets" program
