It being the dog days of Dummer, the little lending library at Hicks Street and Grace Court Alley could use some donations.

Just a reminder that anyone can take a book or three – no need to donate an equal number of books at the same time.

And please – only take books to enjoy. Not to sell or donate.

    Happy August!

Considering the lack of posts recently, excepting the debate over the conflict in the Middle East, I thought I would go back 10 years into the achieves and see what was posted August 15th 2014 and found this article informative with a very interesting photo included in the piece from 1967 of the block between Middagh and Cranberry on Henry.

Parking police out in force today on Hicks Street. Seeing they've changed their weapon of choice, the boot, to a window shield. Hopefully everyone here remembered to move their car.

    Ah, memories!

Here's a view looking north from the St. George roof, Sep. 10, 1932. Photo by S.H. Gottsch:

The former women's wear store on the NW corner of Montague and Henry is being subdivided, with the western part becoming a veterinarian's office. The eastern part, with frontage on Henry and Montague, will become the new home of the pharmacy currently housed in the corner store at the NE corner of Montague and Henry.

This according to a worker in the new space. Confirmed by a worker in the pharmacy, who was not happy to hear I knew about this.

Walking around I noticed the tree guard in front of the entrance to Squibb Park that depicted the Twin Towers is gone. I hope it’s not lost. The tree guard depicting the Statue of Liberty is still there.

I’ve been following BHB for years, although I rarely post anything. I just wanted to say that I’m deeply disappointed by the vile and blatant anti-semitism I’ve seen lately from a couple of regulars on this site. You know who they are. I never thought it would happen in Brooklyn. We can do better.

To be clear: There is no Antisemitism here, at least not form me. My disagreement is only with the way the Israeli government is conducting the war against Hamas, resulting in a genocide of the Palestinian civilian population. I am not in support of Hamas in any way. I do not have any prejudice against the Jewish people whatsoever.
I do not know how to state my case any clearer.

I'm in the same boat here. There's a contingent of pro-Netanyahu trolls who show up whenever there's an incident involving Jewish or Israeli concerns in our neighborhood. They're very keen to stir the pot and call anyone anti-semitic who isn't 100% on board with their leader's barbaric war crimes. It's utter nonsense and as a generally educated, informed neighborhood, we should be able to see through their little stunts.

  • GHB

Netanyahu trolls? That’s all I need to know. Thanks.

  • Red Leader

People have called you out repeatedly for your rampant antisemitism. Absolutely nobody here supports Netanyahu. Just stop playing the victim.

  • Jorale-man

OK, glad that's settled. You're welcome.

  • Jorale-man

Well, I have no reason to feel victimized here. The "people" you're referring to are the pro-Natanyahu trolls and bots who come here and spend their time trying to equate Judaism and Israel with the genocidal strongman who is basically extending the war so he can stay out of prison.

  • B.

Well, that's the tip off: What's happening to Arabs in Gaza is not genocide. It isn't genocide even if you believe the numbers put out by Hamas. And one should not.

  • Red Leader

Your previous posts- You accused the BH synagogue of making residents uncomfortable with their support of Israel by hanging the Israeli flag. You aligned with Hamas terrorists and defended the assault on the Mansion House. Walk us through where you aren’t anti Jew. We will wait.

  • Red Leader

Also – this horrific war on Gaza is actually a horrific war on HAMAS (who started the war and fights amongst their own people.)If you insist on accusing the Jews of genocide, don’t forget about your friends, HAMAS, the killers of 1200 Jews. And more!!

Wiki is not an authority worth citing. It is routinely edited by anyone who signs up. That includes incurious indoctrinated trolls who like to insert what they consider facts.

Next you'll be telling us about the genocide of the Japanese during the Second World War.

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7nPOzGeyaw Arch Stanton

If you think that's how Wikipedia works, why don't you sign up and change the article to reflect your point of view? Oh that's right, I forgot, you must also present supportive evidence.

Put out three bags of clothes for pickup by St. Mary's and when St. Mary's came the bags were gone; at least the person didn't rip the bags open and scatter them around the courtyard, as has happened in the past.

  • A Neighbor

I thought there was supposed to be no political discussion on BHB? If that’s not the rule, it should be.

  • MaggieO

    it's "open thread"…
besides, isn't it all politics? BQE, commercial vacancy, development, etc.?

  • Andrew Porter

That's not how it works. Click on the history of most any page and you'll see that edits and changes are allowed only by those authorized to do so.

I have a Wikipedia page, and am not allowed to make changes there myself.

  • B.

Actually, Andrew, I have — usually spelling, but also info on people I know or the plots of old films which Wiki has gotten wrong. It's not my thing, really — I've done it about 2-3 times. So perhaps I am registered.

  • Jorale-man

I really don't have any more time for this. But my stance remains clear: I'm against anyone who thinks it's okay to kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians, to destroy their homes, schools and hospitals (63% of structures in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed or damaged), to deny people sufficient food, clean water, and medical care, and then lock them onto a small strip of land with no way of getting out. And this is not Hiroshima in WWII; these impacts could have been avoided.

And yes, Israel has the right to defend itself. But if someone supports the above as the means of doing so – be they Netanyahu's minions in congress or the local synagogue – then it's fair game to speak out against them.

  • meschwar

IDF sure is killing a lot of people who are not part of Hamas.

Anyone can submit to have an article changed. It depends on the content article and what kind of information you ar presenting. Subjective information like a movie plot, might be given more leeway. Factual information is needs to be backed up with citations.
