There was discussion last Wednesday about dirty sidewalks. Yesterday, when I walked to Trader Joe's from the north Heights, I realized that many sidewalks are indeed filthy, with stains and suspicious blobs.
The real reason: no measurable rain in the last month. Most of the dog poop and urine, and everything else, is either washed away by rain, or by the labors of those hosing down the sidewalks.
Meanwhile, the looming election is much on my mind. Someone put out a bunch of "vote!" posters on Henry Street, and I collected a few. You can find more info at
The one in the street in front of Vineapple went away a month or so ago. I'm sure the rats were very unhappy (though I suspect they moved to the nearby tree pit).

Brooklyn Dodgers news: 215 Montague Street, where Jackie Robinson signed with the Dodgers, which displays a commemorative plaque, is now surrounded by scaffolding before being torn down. The plaque is still there—and will hopefully be rescued before demolition starts.

What's interesting about this photo is that it shows the statue of Henry Ward Beecher on the plaza immediately in front of Borough Hall instead of on what is now Cadman Park between Pierrepont and Clark streets. I can only surmise that the statue was moved.
