Neighbors Byrne and Giamatti Cop Emmy Nominations
Great news for Brooklyn Heights residents Paul Giamatti and Gabriel Byrne today – both have been nominated for Emmy Awards. Nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles.
Byrne’s nod comes in the Lead Actor in a Drama series for his work on HBO’s In Treatment. Also nominated in the category: Bryan Cranston Breaking Bad, Michael C. Hall Dexter, Jon Hamm Mad Men, Hugh Laurie House and James Spaker Boston Legal.
Paul Giamatti’s HBO serial John Adams earned a nomination for Best Mini Series and Giamatti was tapped as a nominee for Best Actor in a Mini Series. Master thespian/nabe resident Paul Giamatti turns 41 today. In his career, the actor has played many memorable roles – “Miles” in Sideways, Harvey Pekar in the biopic American Splendor, “Pig Vomit” in Howard Stern’s Private Parts (today is coincidentally the real Pig Vomit’s birthday as well), and most recently starring as John Adams in the eponymous HBO mini-series. Financial authority, historian and Heights resident James Grant addressed the annual meeting of the New England Society in the City of Brooklyn yesterday evening at Pete’s Downtown Restaurant, Old Fulton Street. The title of Grant’s talk was “Election 2008: Write in John Adams”. In addition to publishing Grant’s Interest Rate Observer since 1983 and having written four books on financial topics (including a biography of legendary financier Bernard Baruch), Grant is the author of John Adams: Party of One, a biography of the second President of the United States.
