Crews took to the streets of the North Heights earlier this week to trim trees around Middagh, Willow and Cranberry Streets among others. Anyone fortunate enough to be around the area any time after 8 AM got to experience the loud drone of chainsaws. David on Middagh also noted in this week’s Open Thread Wednesday: […]

This dispatch from a BHB reader: A large tree just came down at approximately 9:50pm this evening on Remsen Street. It was growing right alongside the building at 33 Remsen and fell across the road on top of at least three cars, with one parked in front of 34 Remsen taking the brunt. A firefighter […]
The War on Trees continues – A tree fell to its death on Henry Street near Clark yesterday. Karl Junkersfeld was there to capture it all on video. Watch after the jump.
Looks like this tree branch went after the VW rather than wait for a bug to come to it. At around 1:30 p.m. on Columbia Heights near Clark Street, a tree branch crashed on the hood of this vintage Volkswagen Bug. The good news is that there doesn’t appear to be much, if any, damage. […]
A BHB reader sent us this comment and photo: It’s interesting that someone mentioned on the open thread last week that our hood could use a Xmas tree composting station. I was going to suggest that the dead end at Middagh St. would be a good open space to set it up. Well, apparently the […]
BHB reader “Carl” shot these photos of yesterday’s clean up of the Mansion House American Elm, which met its demise early Sunday morning. Just as many of the trees felled by Hurricane Irene and its aftermath, Brooklyn Heights’ beloved elm will be ground down into mulch. “Too bad it couldn’t be turned into lumber to […]

The City removes street trees and large branches that have fallen to the ground in front of houses, in parks, and in other public spaces. The City […]
Just as your humble publisher was mulling over when to move his car out of the relative safety of the Cadman Plaza garage (tonight?), comes this dispatch from Karl Junkersfeld: A very large tree on Jorelemon near Willow Place just came down and i got the video to prove it. Totally wrecked 2 cars that […]
A 50-foot tree in the back yard of 34 Sidney Place was just uprooted by the post-Hurricane wind gusts and came crashing down on the back side of the building, causing some minor damage to the fraternity at 36 Sidney Place. Fire Dept is on the scene.
BHB’s Heather Quinlan sends in the photo of a downed tree on Columbia Heights. BHB super-commenter David on Middagh says, “The Columbia Heights tree was a small Honey Locust, and only the crown came down.” Qfwfq and I noticed that this had been cleaned up by about 1pm today.
