Sunday at noon I joined a group of architecture and park enthusiasts for a tour of the completed Pier 5 and the still under construction uplands of Piers 4 and 3. We were led to Pier 5 by Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Senior Project Manager, Leigh Trucks (photo). More photos and text after the jump. As […]

A Tour of Pier 5 and Unfinished Parts of Brooklyn Bridge Park
Mid-day Walk Photos
Having slept in for a while this morning, I got a somewhat later start than usual on my Saturday walk, heading out shortly before noontime. As I walked, I noticed that the Forsythia, which were just beginning to bloom last week, and pear blossoms, which were not to be seen then, were profuse along Hicks […]

The Royal Navy destroyer HMS Edinburgh arrived in Brooklyn a short time ago, putting in at Pier 7. Her arrival is scheduled to be marked tonight between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. with the firing of three salvoes. She was recently in the Caribbean and is making several stops in the U.S. before returning across the […]

On my walk Saturday morning, I found the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Spencer, based in Boston, docked at Port Authority Pier 7 and taking on fuel from the the Circle Line’s little harbor tanker Capt. Log. Here’s a closer view of Capt. Log; there’s another view, from above, here. Across from Spencer, docked at Brooklyn […]

Last September, the Dutch frigate HNLMS Tromp (at the far end of the pier in the photo above), along with other NATO warships, docked at Pier 7 near the foot of Atlantic Avenue to allow the crew a few days’ liberty. Earlier today, as Tromp was sailing with other European Union warships off the coast […]

Danes invade Brooklyn
Your correspondent got this photo of the Danish frigate HMDS Thetis from the Brooklyn Bridge this morning. She was approaching Pier 7, at the foot of Atlantic Avenue, where she is now docked. I hope the bars along Atlantic are well stocked with Carlsberg beer. Thetis is visiting New York along with nine other ships […]
A Visitor from Japan at Pier 7
Continuing the tradition of foreign warships docking at Pier 7 (see here, here, and here), at the foot of Atlantic Avenue, the Japanese Coast Guard’s large patrol vessel Kojima (LP-21) is berthed there now. Has the reputation of Atlantic Avenue’s bars spread throughout the navies of the world?
