Barricaded Subject on Pierrepont

There is police activity on Pierrepont Street tonight. According to Gothamist newsmap, the call is for a “barricaded subject”. DEVELOPING….
Update: This just in from BHB’s Weegee via Mama Weegee:
It seems the “EDP” is a woman who has been acting erratically, eg, playing very loud jazz, burning incense, and claiming to be a “9/11 widow,” and has barricaded herself in her apartment. (Of course, none of that sounds terribly unstable to me….) Anyway, there is a full response, and it seems that PD has just cut the power to her apartment in an effort to get her to come out.
Update 8:25pm: Weegee reports that building in question is 58 Pierrepont.
Update 8:43pm: Weegee reports that ESU from Bklyn, Qns, Manhattan North and Manhattan South here…Hostage Negotiation Team and TARU(Technical Assistance Response Unit).
Update 9:11 pm: Weegee reports that the subject has been taken into custody.
Law & Order SVU Shoot on Tuesday in Brooklyn Heights

A sign posted on Columbia Heights near Pierrepont advises drivers to move their cars by 10PM Monday night to clear way for Tuesday’s Law & Order:SVU shoot on the street.
First Unitarian Church Gets New Roof
The Brooklyn Eagle has the details on a new roof at the First Unitarian Church [50 Monroe Place]. The church is the oldest in Brooklyn Heights, opening as the Church of the Saviour in 1842. Minard Lafever designed the church as well as the Packer Collegiate Institute:
Brooklyn Eagle: The scaffolding and the plywood panels protecting the five Tiffany stained glass windows facing Monroe Place at Pierrepont Street will be removed, the church hopes, before the annual Unifair event on December 5.
A 10-year, low-interest loan of $300,000 from the Landmark Conservancy financed the replacement of a shingle roof erected almost 50 years ago, said Nancy A. Wolf, chair of the building and grounds council of the board of trustees.
The structure is the oldest of the 10 church buildings in Brooklyn Heights, Wolf noted. Replacing the leaky roof was recommended by Vincent Benic, an architect specializing in historic preservation.

Le Petit Marche Back In Business

After passing their re-inspection today “with flying colors,” Le Petit Marche will be re-opened for business beginning tonight, owner Daniella Silone told BHB.
“It’s a little nerve-wracking,” she said. “I’m happy to be re-opened.”
Silone said she didn’t know how the restaurant will be received, but she “hopes people will give us a chance.” Continue Reading →
Wi-Pie Pizzeria Opens on Remsen Street
Wi-Pie, a new pizza joint, has set up shop on the otherwise deserted stretch of Remsen Street across from St. Francis College.
The new eatery will strive to be the cheapest lunch option in the area, said owner Solomon Solomonov. Almost all of the menu items are under $5, and allow for maximum customization. For example, a small salad is $4.49 and includes your unlimited choice of 32 different toss-ins, he said. Continue Reading →
84th Precinct Police Blotter – 11/24/09
It was a week full of patterns, including the sudden return of auto thefts. Additionally, there were two apartment break-ins and three attacks near or on the F train in this week’s police blotter. Continue Reading →
Will You Go Back to Le Petit Marche?

Photo: Karl Junkersfeld
Le Petit Marche’s [46 Henry Street] recent trouble with the NYC Department of Health and the establishment’s attempt to spin its violations as the product of “clerical errors” has us wondering if Brooklyn Heights residents are willing to return to dining there should they pass re-re-inspection. Owner Daniella Silone told BHB that the situation is “breaking her heart” and she hopes that neighborhood residents will not “forsake” her and the establishment for this chain of events. On Silone’s and LPM’s side is the fact that they’ve created a beautiful space, helped to revitalize the North Heights dining scene and most of all made a previously hideous facade into something worthy of our historic neighborhood. Pies Needed for Heights and Hill Thanksgiving Feast for Seniors
The Heights and Hill Community Council is serving its annual Thanksgiving Feast for Seniors on Thursday at Grace Church, and needs as many apple, pecan or pumpkin pies as possible. Seconds, even thirds, on pie are always in demand. If you can bake a pie, or two, to feed hungry seniors at this event, you will bring them much joy. Please bring your pie or pies to Grace Church, 254 Hicks Street, between Grace Court and Joralemon, during the day on Wednesday or on Thursday morning no later than 11:00. Your generosity and baking talent will be greatly appreciated.
Le Petit Marche Owner: ‘This Is Breaking My Heart’
Le Petit Marche may re-open before Thanksgiving, owner Daniella Silone told BHB tonight.
Silone said that last week’s closing by the DOH following three failed inspections since August was a “tremendous setback.”
“We were not prepared for this,” she said. “This is breaking my heart that this is happening.” Continue Reading →
Le Petit Marche Fails Re-inspection
Not only was Le Petit Marche’s re-opening for a private party this weekend not permitted, the restaurant failed a re-inspeciton today, according to officials at the Department of Health.
During today’s re-inspection, officials found mice droppings as well as conditions for mice “harborage.” In order to re-open the restaurant must pass another re-inspection.
While the restaurant claimed over the weekend the shut down was a result of a clerical error, the DOH stood firm and said the restaurant had failed three inspections since August.
Repeated calls to Le Petit Marche have gone unreturned. Full DOH statement after the jump. Continue Reading →
