There was Palestinian graffiti on one of those now sanded-down benches, which I reported to 311.

I’m guessing that the BHA doesn’t much care about any views expressed here – which is understandable but problematic in that it purports to put our neighborhood’s interests first, but limits almost all communication to & from non-member neighborhood residents to once a year, tops.

I’ll assume, however, that Brownstoner is accurate in stating that the BHA requested that landmarks DENY approval.

I’d love to know why. I, too, am not trained in architecture, but as 2 other commenters said – in effect – “I don’t hate it,” and maybe, the BHA needs to explain why a “hole in the ground” for 10 years or more is preferable to the design shown here! In fact, I find it remarkable that it “got by” Landmarks AND not the BHA.

Surely, the former puts “context” and things like that first, while the latter SHOULD BE more about B.H. “beautification.”

If ever there was a case of “Good is the enemy of best,” this is it, I think. Status quo – and for quite some time – we have a place where rats breed. I think that ought to count when considering alternatives.

Isn’t the new BHA head an architect? Did he OK or spearhead the opposition to the proposed building? … Inquiring minds – mine, for openers – WANT TO KNOW!

I understand Lara Birnback of the BHA reads all the posts here—but almost never comments.

And, are you a BHA member? If not, why not? It costs as little as $25 a year. Here’s the link:

I think I saw the biker gang yesterday driving up Joralemon St – the wrong way – with a police car attempting to follow them but ultimately being outgunned. And moments later, a delivery guy went speeding up the sidewalk on his moped. (Ha, to return to my previous gripe on this comments section.) Interesting times we’re living in.

    Piano wire is your friend.

  • B.

Actually, it’s the only way to get to that vet. Or to certain houses. Perhaps you’d like us to take car service? Same deal.

  • Pierrepont

What was the unofficial towing of cars on Columbia Heights about on Friday? Who and what was that about?

  • clarknt67

DUMBO also included smooth ADA compliant cross walks and smooth bike lanes. It’s a really great example of maintaining historic appearance while allowing for modern improvements. Well done DOT/DUMBO BID.

With as much empty retail space as exists in this city I highly doubt the smoke shops are crowding out anyone.

Looks like St Francis college on Montague is in the process of being razed. Haven’t heard what’s going in there.

Do you mean on Remsen? Big apartment tower

  • gc

Someone was power washing those benches a couple of days ago. Seemed like a bit of a ragtag operation.

  • Jorale-man

I might stick with something more benign, like a leftover banana peal to slip on, or water balloons dropped from above.

Does anyone know the run groups that meet in Brooklyn Heights/Brooklyn bridge park on the weekends.

Wow! what an ignorant comment. It goes to both Willow Place and Columbia Place which cannot be accessed otherwise. And to Furman Street which goes to either end of the neighborhood, and beyond.

Agreed, those blocks are a menace to cars, pedestrians and cyclists, especially in the winter when they hold patches of ice and become extremely slippery! They should be removed and replaced with modern Asphalt. Speed bumps can be installed if needed.

LOL, he city has had cannabis delivery services at least since the 1970’s and probably earlier.
Um, if you are referring to “Gummies” they are no more at risk of spreading pathogens than any candy, as have such a high sugar content. Sugar is a preservative, for you and those who slept through science class.
6,000 overdoses from what? Not cannabis, which is basically impossible to OD from.
Dry-cleaners are closing because they are not needed as much, since workplace dress standard are becoming much more casual. Besides, the thought that one unrelated business could force-out another is ludicrous.
You might do some research before announcing your ignorance to the world.

It’s the 141st Anniversary of the Brooklyn Bridge today..

Video below celebrates this memorable day.

You terminally ill? 3 or 4 comments from you, all of them venomous!

I’m no snowflake, but you must be an ardent Trump supporter.

As for the merits of my argument, look at it this way – We have lots of vacant space because whoever makes renting/leasing decisions is living in 2015 or some such, when they could get even crazier rents than today…. So, GOOD BUSINESSES – ones that don’t break laws [debating the merits of those laws is pointless] 50 times a day and hundreds on Sat. & Sunday – opt for Smith Street or pretty much anywhere but Montague and most of Brooklyn Heights while these bottom feeders pay the rents – I guess – until they’re shut down. Look up Gresham’s law. It’s long been known that the good has a way of being driven out by the bad.

My mistake. Montague. Are there plans announced for the site?

  • lois

What was going on at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday May 25th – Parks Police, NYPD questioning so many vendors. Thanks.

  • MM

I noticed new parking signs on Montague between Hicks and Montague Terrace/Pierrepont Pl – No parking on Sunday 10a-7p from May to September. However, Open Streets ends at Hicks Street. Do you know why these signs were added here? Or was this a mistake installing the signs one block too far?

  • Red Leader

I guess that sounds.. better? Hopefully it stops soon!

  • B.

    I’ll give it another go.

Unless you want to carry a sick dog a block to the vet, uphill from Furman, or stop short on Hicks and then carry him downhill, maybe in the rain if that makes you happy, taking Joralemon down to Columbia Place is your only option.

People live on those blocks accessible only from Joralemon. Many have cars themselves. There’s a parking garage on State that you get to via Joralemon. It’s not as though drivers speed down Joralemon — it’s too bumpy.

Try to relax. People have and use cars for all sorts of reasons.

  • B.

Sorry, Teunis, really responding to Karateca.

  • Linda DeRosa

The Joralemon Street signs will return soon. They were vandalized.

  • Jorale-man

That would be nice. I hope the gates return too. Again, they didn’t stop drivers but they reinforced the message that they must share the street with pedestrians.

No, I just have a low tolerance for ignorant, uninformed opinions.
Precisely why I cannot stand Trump or any of his supporters.
The other thing I cannot stand are judgmental points of view, based on some sort of self-perceived “moral superiority”.
What makes cannabis shops “bottom feeders”? It sounds like you are dogmatically brainwashed by the propaganda of W.R. Hearst, Nixon, et.al….
