The setting sun illuminates the Bossert Hotel (photo by C. Scales for BHB) at Montague and Hicks streets. Will this long nearly abandoned but magnificent building (Helmle & Huberty, 1909) see another sunrise before long? False hopes have arisen several times, only to be grounded. Not even former Studio 54 owner Ian Schrager and upscale hotelier Ed Scheetz could manage to pull it off.
Still, we have a new reason for hope. According to Raanan Geberer in The Eagle, citing The Real Deal, the Chetrit family, the Bossert’s long time co-owners and then sole owners, whose default on a loan agreement caused the Bossert to be put up for auction, are in talks with Beach Point Capital Management, which bought the defaulted loan and avoided an auction. According to The Real Deal, “If the talks are succesful, the hotel could reopen in as little as six months.”
