Open Post: Best Veterinarian & Dog Walker In Brooklyn Heights

With pets front & center on the Brooklyn Heights Blog of late, what could be more appropriate for the fifth in our series of “Best of the Heights” Open Posts than to share the poop on a combo: Best Veterinarian and Best Dog Walker in the neighborhood? For the former, please share the name of the practice, the doc your pet sees and the address (as well as any info you’d like to reveal about $$). For the latter, name, contact info and rate, if you please. We’ll take on Best Pet Groomers in a future post.

If you’ve missed past recent Open Thread “Best Of” surveys, see them here: Best Dry Cleaner, Best Pizza Pie, Best Handyman, and Best Car Service. (Photo: Spencer!/Chuck Taylor)

We take the dogs and the kids to Nassau County for health care the pediatrician is on Plandome Road in Manhasset Dr. Silver and the dogs go to The North Shore Animal League in Port Washington that is a GREAT place.

Here in Brooklyn Heights I walk my own dogs when my son is older he will walk the dogs in the meanwhile I hear that Mr. Crusty is looking for a small job to keep him OFF of the BHB even he is tired of his dumb comments so if anyone seeks a dog walker find that old freak Mr. Crusty ask him to walk your doggie.

I highly recommend Martina from Martina Walks the Walk for dog walking. http://www.martinawalks.com
She has walked for our dog for the past 4 years. She is a nice person who loves animals & is incredibly professional and dependable.

Another vote for Little Dipper! Our little Frenchie Stella just completely adores Alex and Steven (and their dogs Elroy and Betty). Stella has been part of the Little Dipper Gang since she was a puppy and my husband and I have been so impressed with the level of service and care that Alex and Steven provide. They treat each dog as their own, always going the extra step with little treats, special attention and extra love. They also do an awesome job pairing up the dogs for their walks so that dogs with similar play habits get to have some play time on their walks, not just a bathroom break. Can not recommend them enough!

Dr. Sara Neuman at Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group is the best. She is so skilled and compassionate and my cat, Jade, loves her.

  • Still Here

We transitioned from Cobble Hill to Vinegar Hill Veternary, and actually like both, but we really like Dr. Neuman and her staff, and of course, the Ferret. It is easier having them nearby.

Rich Sporer is the best dog walker in the area. Highly dependable, understanding and has a passion for animals and their well being. Expurrt Petcare Services.

I have a 120 lb lab so I’m really picky on making sure that whoever walks my dog will be able to handle him. I use Csaba and Henriett from Dog Duty and they are amazing. My dog loves them and they are great with him. They are totally flexible and have always helped me with last minute walks when I’ve needed them. It’s hard to find someone who you feel actually cares about your dog, so it’s nice when you do. I definitely recommend!

Phyllis (www.poochandkitty.net) is the best cat sitter i have ever had. She is so knowledgeable about all animals, even gives recommendations to change litter, diet, etc, based on animals needs. I always know when i go away, my cats are in great hands. I nI ever have to worry about anything when i go, and know she spends quality time with them during her visits. I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who has furry kids.

Our vet is NOT in Brooklyn Heights, but if you have a car or don’t mind the trip, they are fantastic–they’ve been taking care of my cat for almost 10 years. Park Slope Veterinary Care, 413 5th Ave., between 7th and 8th St., 718-788-0500 http://www.parkslopevets.com/

Everyone there loves animals–seems like a weird thing to say about a vet, but I’ve heard horror stories. I don’t know how their prices compare to other practices, but they do give estimates before they perform procedures and will tell you up front how much different services are.

I am so happy with them; they’ve taken wonderful care of my feral little freak, and they’ve saved her life on two occasions.

Little Dipper is the best dog walking = caring service in Brooklyn Hgts/Dumbo! Our King Charles Cavalier – Zoe is absolutely crazy about them! As mentioned in the above posts, they go the extra mile in caring for her, always leave daily bathroom report/weekend notes on her personalized card, wipe her paws and make sure we are updated with anything they find unusual or worth sharing. My neighbors who work from home made several comments to us about how great she is being treated during her walks. Not to mention about spoiling her with Bday gifts, holiday treats and cute cards. We are very proud of Zoe being a part of the Little Dipper gang! We have a piece of mind she is in great, caring hands.

I am completely agree that Csaba and Henriett are the best dog walkers.

One Love, Dr. Ryan is especially great, and I have been to most of the vets in the neighborhood but I am staying with One Love. The wait is often long but I still go..Veterinary Arts on Henry Street in Carroll Gardens is good too as a second choice.

  • David Thompson

I completely agree with Matthew Parker above “Dr. Neuman at Vinegar Hill Vet is the best doctor. Martina from Martina Walks the Walk, the best pet care provider: http://www.martinawalks.com

Been using Martina for walking for over 4 years now. She’s the best.

    Gerry,
I am wondering why you don’t move to Nassau County. Your olympic pool is there. Your pediatrician is there. The dogs go to North Shore Animal League. A great place, by the way. I adopted my dearly departed dog Phoebe from North Shore many years ago.

  • Still here

After many, many years with Cobble Hill, (which is really good) we now go to Vinegar Hill. Dr. Neuman and her staff have great bedside manors, can deal with difficult patients, and they are close by.

  • M from Montague

Dr Sara Neuman at Vinegar Hill is our Vet and we highly reccomend her. She is caring and thorough and gives you and your pet all the time you need.We love that she sits on the floor with us because the table is scarey! Having your schedule and your dogs’ nerves respected by appointments being kept on time is much appreciated. 7 day a week access, and a concerned,Dr who answers your email promptly is a wonderful thing! It is also a plus that Vingegar Hill has a special relationship with Verg in Cobble Hill and cooridinates with them if you need their services.
Csaba and Henriett of Dog Duty Inc are the best dog walkers. Very professional and reliable and excellent with the dogs and training. My dog is definitely happier, more confident and social with other dogs since she walks with them. They are easily reachable on email and have no problem handeling my frequent schedule changes.

One Love Animal Hospital wins hands down. I’ve been to many, many animal hospitals over the years and I’ve never met a more caring, thoughful, intelligent, friendly, competent, reasonable group of veterinarians. They are worth the wait and they are worth the trip (take a car service or the A/C or walk, it’s not far).
If you have an emergency after hours I recommend VERG on Warren just of Smith street. They are open 24 hours, 7 days a week and are a team of dedicated professionals who do everything in their power to help you and your pet.
