Expand Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrian and Bike Paths?
Your correspondent occasionally enjoys a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, but as the narrow pedestrian and bike paths, separated only by a thick painted white line, have become increasingly crowded, enjoyment has become scarce. I’ll quickly admit this is more the fault of pedestrians than of cyclists. Walking three or even four abreast, or stopping […]

Thanks to Mary Frost, of the Brooklyn Eagle, we now have a detailed chronology, with links to Eagle stories giving further information about each incident, of the steps leading to and following the sale of Long Island College Hospital. The long, unfortunate history of the eyesore of a brownstone at 100 Clark St. (aka 1 Monroe Pl.) dates back to May 2008, when BHB reported that the building had been condemned after years of neglect and disrepair. At the time, the three remaining, rent-stabilized tenants living in the 18-unit building were forced out and the building […]

Brooklyn Heights Temporary Library Accessibility Questioned
Shortly after it opened, your correspondent visited the new temporary Brooklyn Heights Branch Library, located in the social hall of Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral at 109 Remsen Street. As you can see from the photo I took, the entrance from Remsen requires climbing several steps, and there is no ramp. According to the Brooklyn […]
