2 raves – i.e., “I am grateful for”s. We’ve had some weather days (Mon & Tue, to name 2) that were nothing short of DIVINE. The 3/4 of Cadman Park (“the West Bank”) that’s open has never felt like more of a community asset. Yes, those playing on the turf – aged 2-42 at different times – are those most obviously enjoying it, but there IS plenty of seating and shaded areas, and it’s something to behold. Yes, BBP has all that and more at a much bigger “scale,” but “Cadman” has earned its stripes over decades – overcoming a very flawed design by a combination of good work by the Parks Dept. and hard work by the Cadman Conservancy. (Will I live to see the “War Memorial” being something other than an eyesore?)

2nd thumbs-up – 4/13 & 4/14 were the first big BQE workdays, and the city DID station what seemed to be the right number of workers to prevent Hicks & Clinton from being swamped with “turners.”

they definitely had more traffic cops out than last time, but i was confused by the fact that they sorta painted alternate lane markers on Atlantic but then never finished them and completely ignored them. There was also a guy on Atlantic at Boerum specifically designated to assist pedestrians with crossing safely. His vest even said so!

Two For the Pot, one of my favorite shops in the neighborhood, is now open. Well, it has always been open, but you couldn’t get in since the pandemic. You can now walk inside and shop around.

renovation going on in one of the shops between HENRY ALE and BINC. Anyone know what’s coming?

Here is a home tour of one of the modernist houses down on Willow Place. Currently on sale for a cool $12 million:

Interior is gorgeous. Cant say the same for the exterior though.

Totally gutted the several stores, which were linked together. One of the workers couldn’t tell me anything, either,

  • Karen and Chad

where is that? Looks interesting. What do they stock?

  • Banet

West side of Clinton, 1 storefront north of Atlantic Avenue. It’s been there for at least… 25 years?

    We agree.

The exterior front door area could use some cleaning up, shrubs, gravel, sea grass, etc.

Find another spot for the garbage can box NOT next to the main entrance.

The bricks on top near the roof need to be power washed.

It is on Clinton & Atlantic. Next to the bagel shop (on Clinton). Across the street from Key Food. Highly recommended. John, the owner, is will help you pick a great tea if you don’t know what you are looking for.

Look at that innocent little tree…

Not sure how I feel about this:

    https://www.thecity.nyc/2024/04/19/brooklyn-heights-affordable-housing-co-op/

What’s the take on the board? The building is obviously a mess, but this feels like just another giveaway that helps a select few and is due to chance.

Fascinating back story on the Heights:

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/04/19/realestate/st-francis-college-brooklyn.html

And in other real estate news, any new news on what’s happening with the Barnes & Noble/Movie Theater on Court? Or the Bossert? I haven’t heard about either in about ten minutes and figured it was worth a check-in. Only respond if you know something please.

  • Effective Presenter

    We do NOT like this.

We feel something must be given to the people who are on the waiting list.

  • Jorale-man

Yes, and the house next door would concern me too if I were buying this. It sadly looks like it’s on its last legs.

  • Brixtony

The building is NOT remotely a mess and this article even got the address of the building wrong. It’s not a “giveaway “ and over the years the waitlist has been cancelled and modified several times.

  • Brixtony

Despite the obviously fake names, do you actually live in the neighborhood ?

  • W.R.

The exterior is fantastic. Brutalist, balanced and actually lovely with its faint color, its soft concrete, redwood, and perfect proportions. If only landmarks would allow less slavish faux replacements when building.

Looks like there is an article from a couple of weeks about the loan being put up for sale since the auction didn’t happen. Can’t read more due to paywall: https://crenews.com/2024/04/03/112mln-cmbs-loan-on-hotel-bossert-in-brooklyn-n-y-offered-for-sale/

Speaking of the St. Francis buildings, do we know what Rockrose is planning to do? I couldn’t find much about it.

  • MaggieO

maybe the union protestors on joralemon know more… they’re protesting because Rockrose intends to use a non-union demolition contractor for the work, but it’s not clear whether that’s just interior demo or whole-building. My guess is that at least the athletics portion of the building will be completely demolished, possibly all of it.

  • Effective Presenter

That is unfortunate a beautiful swimming pool is in that building.

  • Karen and Chad

No, I just like to hang our on local neighborhood blogs and write well-informed comments. Of course I live in the neighborhood. Do you? Is your real name Brix? Or Tony? Not seeing a lot of Google results for either. What’s your point?

New permits near the Dumbo Spumoni Gardens. Wonder if they’ll try to open this summer.

  • Karl Junkersfeld

    Not DUMBO but Fulton Ferry.
