PetSmart Opens First Of Two Brooklyn Locations On Atlantic Avenue

PetSmart celebrated the opening of the first of two new Brooklyn locations Monday, with Borough President Marty Markowitz attending for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In addition to a dizzying assortment of food and pet accessories, the 15,000-square-foot superstore at 238 Atlantic Avenue offers the full-service Banfield Pet Hospital, grooming, accredited training, adoption facilities and regular events for local and national charities, as well as prescription foods and medications. Howl-o-Ween Parade a Howling Success

The ninth annual Howl-o-Ween dog parade, sponsored by Perfect Paws, with after-party presented by Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group, took place today on the Promenade under sunny skies, though with a fall nip in the air.Over fifty contestants showed up in a great variety of costumes, including Wellington (photo), held by owner Stacey Mankoff, and dressed as Chef Cora of Iron Chef. Halloween Events in Brooklyn Heights

This coming pre-Halloween weekend will be a busy one for the neighborhood. The Junior Committee of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy will host the second annual All Hallows Bash Saturday evening, October 29, from 8:00 to 1:00 a.m., at One Brooklyn Bridge Park (360 Furman Street). This year’s theme is “Heroes and Villains”; there will be prizes for the best costumes. You must be 21 or older to attend. There’s more information here, and you can buy tickets ($50 in advance; $60 at the door) here. There’s also the Kids’ Halloween Parade Saturday morning, and, of course, the Howl-O-Ween Parade Sunday afternoon.

Jack the Dog has been found! Pet parent “Cheryl” tells us:

Hello! This is Jack’s owner. He is safe thanks to some folks with a few Frenchies and 2 NYPD officers who caught him, Monster Mutts in Cobble Hill, and a host of Mobile Mutts and other walkers and searchers.

He’s limping a bit and his paw pads took a beating, but he seems fine. A tremendous thank you to all the people who took some time to look, post here, or stop one of the searchers with a sighting.

Could it Be? BeeBop Spotted in Brooklyn Bridge Park

A BHB reader sent this dispatch to Cathy, owner of BeeBop the missing Willowtown cat:

I was just running on the footpath between Piers 1 and 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park and saw a cat near the rocks/water between where Pier 2 & 3 will be. I thought that the cat looked dark gray but could have been black, and I think had a white face – based on the photo on the Brooklyn Heights blog, I’m not 100% sure that it is BeeBop, and I apologize if it isn’t!

Doggie the Cat – Found!

Doggie—the cat whose disappearance brought us all together, as we huddled around the radio awaiting news—has been found. Apparently he (she?) was discovered in a neighbor’s attic, by workers who saw its tell-tale paw prints. You may all resume your regularly scheduled lives.

Animal Planet Auditions Coming to Rocco and Jezebel

Does your pooch have star quality? Or are you tired of spending all your unemployment on Iams and think it’s high time Spot goes to work for you? Well, your time has come. Andrea from Rocco and Jezebel writes:

On Saturday, June 11, between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., Animal Planet will be doing a casting call for dogs and owners for a show called “It’s Me or The Dog” (for incorrigible dogs testing their owners’ patience) in front of our store, Rocco and Jezebel for Pets located at 89 Pineapple Walk in Brooklyn Heights. Also during that time, Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition will be having an adoption event between the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
