Breaking Away: Doggie Edition

Three years ago, a BHB reader spotted a local dog walker on a scooter with several pooches in tow. Last week, a tipster observed what appears to be another walker on a bicycle (photo) doing basically the same thing. But folks walk dogs while wearing roller blades all the time, so is this a big deal?
Dog-on-Dog Attack at Pet Store
Reader Melissa Curry tells us that, last Wednesday, she took her nine pound Pomeranian, Munchie, to Clark Pet.com (photo) on leash. While in the store, Munchie was attacked by a forty pound pit bull-rat terrier mix named Pandora, and sustained deep puncture wounds, two of which required extensive stitching. According to Ms. Curry, Munchie did nothing to provoke the attack and Pandora, who was off-leash, gave no warning. Continue Reading →
A One Armed Something is Missing in Brooklyn Heights
Mrs. Fink snapped this photo of a flyer posted along Hicks Street today. Apparently some sort of one-armed bird (penguin?) has gone missing. There is a phone number posted, but it’s indecipherable. Take a closer look at the poster after the jump and help us solve this mystery. Continue Reading →

Report: Lost Pooches in North Heights
This in from a BHB reader:
Just ran into a distraught dog walker who is looking for 2 dogs – a black lab and a Bassett hound. Names are Lucy and Oliver and they live on Willow St. [Comment below] if you find them, they are both very friendly!
Spotty the Dog Found!
Spotty the Dog, who was reported missing over the weekend, has been reunited with his pet parents. BHB reader Natalie Cooper found Spotty and posted here earlier about the rescue:
SPOTTY HAS BEEN FOUND. I spotted him while jogging Saturday afternoon (2/19) on the corner of Henry and Remsen. He had no collar nor microchip (I took him to my vet for microchip testing). After several failed attempts to find his home and rightful owners, I left him with the wonderful Sean Casey Animal Rescue team. When posting “found dog” flyers the next day (Sunday, 2/20), I saw the sign for the missing dog and got in touch with the owner, who then contacted Sean Casey. Hopefully by now, he is back at home and happy once again. And yes, he is such a sweet dog!!!

Howl-o-Ween on the Promenade!
When no fewer than 40 dogs gather with their owners on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade clad in outfits as wide-ranging as a hula dancer, a shark, a peacock, and something that looked like a robot, it kind of makes you wish everyday was Halloween (or, in this case, the day before Halloween). Grace Church Blessing of Animals This Afternoon: Will There Be Another “Miracle”?
This afternoon at 5:00 Grace Church will hold its annual blessing of the animals, in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Asissi. At last year’s event, one of the Holbrooke chickens surprised the Rector, the Rev. Stephen Muncie, and others in attendance, by producing an egg while receiving the blessing. Video after the jump. Cat Found; Home Sought
While dogs usually dominate the pet-related discussions here, our feline friends are making lots of news this week. This just in from a reader:
According to our correspondent, he was rescued from the engine of a Verizon truck, and “the event’s hero is Don, manager of Perelandra”.
