Evening Walk Photos: Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn Heights

I took a walk early yesterday (Monday) evening. On my way from the Squibb Park pedestrian bridge on to Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park, I was greeted by this gray catbird (thanks to reader elw_ny and FB friend John Hunt for the species ID). A little farther along, I found a red saddlebags dragonfly (thanks […]

Gawker Goes Bugnutty On Creationist Piece By Brooklyn Heights Writer

Journalist/Brooklyn Heights resident Virginia Heffernan published an essay Thursday for Yahoo! News entitled “Why I’m a Creationist”. Thoughtful? Sure. Troll bait? You bet. It also proved to be great fodder for the folks at Gawker. Hamilton Nolan, no stranger to online ribbing himself, releases the hounds in his counterpoint, “Yes Viginia, There Is A Darwin”: […]

Waterfowl at Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park has become an attraction for migratory birds. Several American black ducks have settled, at least temporarily, along the stream that follows the landward side of Pier 1. Over the past few weekends, I’ve seen them every time I’ve crossed a footbridge over that stream. In the photo above, one appears to be […]

Mid-Week Walk Photos: Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Bridge Park

Late Wednesday afternoon I took a walk north along the Promenade, across the pedestrian bridge to Pier 1, south along the Brooklyn Bridge Park walkway to Pier 5, then up Joralemon to home on Montague. Cherry blossoms provided a splash of color at the Promenade’s north end. Brilliant green ferns on the Pier 1, Brooklyn […]

Heights Promenade: One Good Perennial Deserves Another

Just as the spectacular spray of yellow daffodils has peaked along the Promenade, the enduring warm weather has allowed a kaleidoscope of colors from the other plentiful perennial—tulips—to burst into bloom. Vivid reds, warm whites, pretty pinks and prismatic purples are now abounding all along the walkway. Ooh, la la! (CT)
