Deja Vu All Over Again: Manhattan Bound Brooklyn Bridge Lanes Closed This Weekend

This just in from Notify NYC (but note that, unlike previous weekend closures, this one begins at 7:00 this–Friday–evening and goes to 6:00, not 5:00 a.m. Monday):

Notification issued 11/8/13 at 12:00 PM. Starting at 7:00PM on Friday November 8 until 6 AM Monday November 11, the Brooklyn Bridge will be closed to inbound/westbound traffic. Motorists proceeding inbound/northbound from south Brooklyn via the Belt Parkway and Gowanus Expressway should use 3rd Avenue/Hamilton Avenue into the toll facility Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel as the best route into lower Manhattan. Motorists proceeding inbound/westbound from Queens/Long Island should consider the Williamsburg Bridge, or the toll facilities at the Robert F Kennedy Bridge or Queens Midtown Tunnel, for best route into Manhattan. Throughout this closure the Manhattan Bridge will accommodate 5 lanes of traffic inbound/westbound and two lanes outbound/eastbound.

The DOT website says the closure starts at midnight; I’m guessing that the notification above reflects more current info.

This is good, it will speed up the project’s completion. They need full weekends to get in solid work time. The weeknight closures are too brief to get any real work done, most of the time is spent setting up and taking down the equipment. Unless we have more full length closures the work could last through the year 2020.
