Park Progress: Thirty-Eighth Report–City/State “Turf War” Delaying Pier 1 Opening?

Greensward, paths, benches, stairs, and trees beckon visitors to Pier 1 in this photo taken from the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday, January 27. For some time, we’ve been advised that this portion of Brooklyn Bridge Park would open this month, but January has just two days left and no opening date has been announced. Thanks […]

Park Progress: Thirty-Seventh Report

Our report is nearing the one year mark. Here’s how Pier 1 looked last February: Here’s how it looked this morning, Monday, January 11, 2010: The temporary structure that previously covered the “tot park” at the lower right of the photo has been removed, and stairways are being built at the middle left.

Park Progress: Thirty-Sixth Report

Looking down at Pier 1 from the east tower of the Brooklyn Bridge on Monday morning, December 27, 2009. There’s water in the pond, and a temporary structure has been erected over the “tot park”, perhaps to provide shelter until spring arrives. Park Progress: Thirty-Fifth Report–Winter Wonderland

It looks like the slope of Regina Ridge could be a contender for best sledding spot, though it’s not in Brooklyn Heights proper. Contrast this with the last photo to appear here of Pier 1 with (less) snow, taken from the vantage point of the Brooklyn Bridge last March 6. It should not be too […]

Park Progress: Thirty-Second Report–Trees!

Inclement weather prevented your correspondent from making his usual Brooklyn Bridge transit this morning, but a break in the rain late this afternoon allowed for a few shots from the Promenade. There, peeking over Regina Ridge, are Pier 1’s first five–or is it six?–trees. More are soon to come, I’m sure. Removal of the decking […]

Park Progress: Thirty First Report

Earlier this year, a reader suggested that it would be helpful, from time to time, to compare the most recent image with the earliest one. Here is the photo of the north end of Pier 1 taken from the east tower of the Brooklyn Bridge on February 27, 2009: BHB photo by C. Scales Here’s […]

Park Progress: Thirtieth Report

Instead of the usual comparative pix of Piers 1 and 6 (for what’s going on there now, you need to see Karl Junkersfeld’s videos of his tours of Pier 1 and Pier 6), here are three photos, all taken on Tuesday, October 13, that show new stuff going on this week. Demolition work has begun […]
