As if the Pierhouse’s blotting out of the full view of the arc of the Brooklyn Bridge, which had been visible (apart from two small interruptions caused by rooftop equipment) from the southern portion of the Promenade when the National Cold Storage Warehouse buildings were there (see here), wasn’t enough, a high rise building in […]

Promenade Gardeners’ Bake Sale Saturday
The members of the Promenade Gardens Conservancy, who are responsible for the upkeep of the gardens and for the floral displays we enjoy, are holding a bake sale this Saturday afternoon, November 5, from 12:30 until 3:00, at the Montague Street entrance to the Promenade. All proceeds go to the upkeep of the Promenade gardens.
Promenade “Likely” To Be Closed During BQE Re-Construction
DNAinfo reports that parts of the Brooklyn Heights Promenade might well need to be closed when re-construction of the BQE begins…whenever it will actually begin. “We would like to keep as much of it open as we can,” Bob Collyer, the city’s chief bridge engineer, said at a Tuesday night meeting. “If we need to […]
Remembering Henrik Krogius
We at BHB are deeply saddened by the news that Henrik Krogius has died. His love of his adopted home, Brooklyn Heights, was hard to match. He was blessed with many talents: writer; historian (he wrote the definitive history of his beloved Brooklyn Heights Promenade); editor of the Brooklyn Heights Press for many years; TV […]
Remembering Fifteen Years Ago
The beams no longer shine from the location of the two towers; that location has been taken by a new building and by a memorial. Still we remember lost neighbors, kin, and friends, and the eight brave firefighters who never returned. Addendum: There will be an interfaith memorial service at the Montague Street entrance to […]
Brooklyn Heights Braces Itself for the Fourth
Much of Brooklyn Heights will be a “No Parking” zone from 11:00 p.m. Sunday, July 3 until 11:00 p.m. Monday, July 4th. There’s a list of streets on which parking will be prohibited, and some of which, at police discretion, may be declared closed or “frozen zones”, supplied by the Brooklyn Heights Association here. Gothamist […]
Brooklyn Bridge Jumper Survives
As I was taking a stroll along the Promenade this afternoon I noticed two police helicopters, one hovering overhead and the other making slow circuits around the Brooklyn Bridge. At the Brooklyn Bridge Park entrance at the foot of Old Fulton Street I found fire and police vehicles and ambulances (photo). I asked a bystander […]
Goats on Brooklyn Bridge Park Berm
The Brooklyn Paper reports that Brooklyn Bridge Park has brought four Nubian goats, like those in the photo, to trim the weeds that have flourished on the sound deflecting berm below the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, giving us something new to view. They are four brothers–Horatio, Eyebrows, Minnie, and Hector–who have been trained as weed eaters […]
Prayer Vigil on Promenade Monday for Orlando Victims and End to Gun Violence
We’ve received notice from The Rev. Julie Hoplamazian, Associate Rector of Grace Church, that the Brooklyn Heights clergy will hold a prayer vigil on Monday evening, June 20 on the Promenade to remember those who died in Orlando and pray for an end to gun violence. The clergy invite all who wish to join in […]
English Country Dance On The Brooklyn Heights Promenade This Evening
The faint sound of concertina music coming from the direction of the Promenade drew your correspondent to put on his windbreaker and head out. A dance troupe was doing English country dance there. They were excellent.
