As I was taking a stroll along the Promenade this afternoon I noticed two police helicopters, one hovering overhead and the other making slow circuits around the Brooklyn Bridge. At the Brooklyn Bridge Park entrance at the foot of Old Fulton Street I found fire and police vehicles and ambulances (photo). I asked a bystander what had happened; he said, “Man in water.” The Post reports that the as yet unidentified man survived a jump from the Brooklyn Bridge and, after being pulled from the water by waiting authorities, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.
