From Notify NYC comes word that alternate side parking is suspended for tomorrow, Friday, January 14 and Sturday, January 15. The Brooklyn Heights Association advises us that garbage collection will resume tomorrow throughout the Heights, though the process may be slow and will likely continue into the night. Collection of recyclables for those living on or north of Joralemon Street, who normally have pickup on Wednesday, will be done tonight, although it may be continued into tomorrow. For those living south of Joralemon, pickup will be on your usual day, Monday, so you should wait until Sunday to put recyclables out.

Friends With Kids on Henry Street

Perhaps this is the sequel to “Friends With Benefits?” (This struck me so funny earlier that I fell of the curb.) At any rate, Henry from Cranberry to Clark will be off limits on the 14th due to this 2012 laugh-fest starring Megan Fox and Jon Hamm.

Parking Rules Suspended Again; How to Complain About Abandoned Cars

Notify NYC has duly notified us of yet another extension of the suspension of alternate side parking rules and parking meter requirements, now through tomorrow, Thursday, December 30. (Think they’ll go for the whole week? Wait and see.) They’ve also added this:

Abandoned vehicles are making it difficult for plows to clear snow from city streets. You can report these
vehicles and their locations to 311. Please provide as much detail about the location as possible, such as the address of the closest building, the closest intersection, or the block and its bordering streets.

Update: D’oh, of course the rules are suspended Friday–it’s New Year’s Eve. Then you’re home free through the holiday weekend. Thanks to Doug Biviano for pointing this out.

As to the removal of the white stuff in Community District 2 (which includes Brooklyn Heights), we’ve received the following:

DSNY anticipates receiving two more front loaders from Manhattan by noon. The additional equipment will join two front loaders, 30 standard plows, and a small number of V-plows already in operation [in CD 2].

With the additional equipment, DSNY expects to plow almost every street in the district at least once by this evening. Love Lane and College Place, the only “tertiary” streets in the district, will most likely be plowed overnight. Continue Reading →
