Start the weekend this evening (Thursday, September 5) with your last chance this season for stargazing on Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1 esplanade with members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York and their telescopes. The forecast is for clear skies, and the observing goes from 8:30 to 10:30.
Also this evening, starting at 7:00 the Brooklyn Heights Cinema will have a one-time showing of American Milkshake, presented by the Kevin Smith Movie Club. There will be Q&A with the director and other guests from the movie afterward, and you’ll still have time to go to Pier 1 for the other kind of stargazing, if you’re so inclined. All weekend the Cinema will be showing The Spectacular Now and In A World. Showtimes are here.
The Heights Players open their new season this weekend at their playhouse, 26 Willow Place, with Horton Foote’s Dividing the Estate. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 and Sunday afternoon at 4:00, and will continue through the following two weekends. More details here.
On Sunday afternoon, September 8, starting at 4:00, Bargemusic will present a Masterworks concert featuring works by Shostakovich, Beethoven, and Fauré performed by the Cassatt String Quartet.
