Bike Shares Bloom on Remsen Street

New York City’s transformation
into Amsterdam is moving forward, as Citi Bike Share stands are currently being installed on the corner of Remsen and Hicks. Additional stations in the neighborhood will include Clark and Henry, Clark and Montague, Clinton and Joralemon, and Borough Hall.

How are they “put in a terrible location”?
The locations were selected by public suggestions via an interactive map and obvious logic, i.e. near mass transit and busy commercial areas.

  • Tony

    Why not? It’s a time-honored city tradition.

  • Tony

You’re quite naive if you think we’re going to see fewer cars in our neighborhood now because of these bike racks. Come up with a better argument.

  • Tony

Lame joke. You were only sucking up to one institution in your posting.

“The locations were selected by the peoples suggestions via an interactive map and obvious logic, i.e.”: This sentence is as illiterate as it is incomprehensible. But I would like to know more about how these locations were selected. Were there community board meetings?

    Yes!

I suppose you would prefer to roll it back to the 1880’s and have horses and carriages lining the street… ankle deep in manure and urine.

  • Clintonious Wow

You can find some info on that here: http://bit.ly/1131yI1

    An intelligent rebuttal. Thank you!

You are welcome, I guess i succeeded in stooping to your level.

Wow, that’s an Intelligent way of avoiding the question.

Oh, the children! THE CHILDREN !

I think Tony and Arch have too much time on their hands, or maybe too little brain matter. Why so upset over bikes to the point of hurling insults? Looking down from my window right now, I see two jeeps, a pickup truck and various SUVs. Doesn’t seem to me a bike rack would be such a “dangerous” eyesore. I , too, am quite annoyed by bikers who don’t obey traffic rules, but that can be curbed by enforcing laws and fining those who break them. Delivery people will change their evil ways fast, as soon as they get hit with a fine or two. Let’s give the bike program a little time to see if it works well or does not. Enforcement of traffic rules is key.

I’m curious about the Remsen/Hicks location. Two years ago the Bossert was owned by the JWs; now it will be a regular hotel. Will this impact the collection of garbage and egress from that rear door of the Bossert?

    Tony is right!

These biking docks will have grafatti and stickers all over them in no time…that will really help the hood.

What will happen in the winter, when no one will use them, will they be removed? and just the empty docks will take up parking, or will the whole dock station be removed? real question

The main service entrance is on the Hicks St side, I cannot recall ever even seeing those rear doors open.

  • Clintonious Wow

Bikes will be in place all year, and people will use them all year.

It seems you are the one with perhaps “too little brain matter” as I am not at all “upset over bikes”. In fact, I am very much in favor of the bike share program; I have already purchased an annual membership. I own two bikes, a car (yes, I park it on the street) and I see the value in having this system in place. I merely took issue with “Tony” who was posting a ridiculous self-absorbed argument.

I agree, I ride most of the year and others do as well. Perhaps they will take some of the bikes away during the winter when usage will be less.

It’s Darwin’s Law. Survival of the fittest. Adam Lanza should have played in the street.

  • Joe A

You are really clueless aren’t you?

  • Tony

Too much time on my hands? Would it were true. I think I’ve spent a grand total of five minutes on this blog today. Since these racks were installed yesterday, every time I’ve gone outside I’ve seen my neighbors congregating around them complaining. The same in my lobby too. Earlier today I saw a sign posted to the sign urging people to write to Councilman Steve Levin about them, so obviously I’m not alone.

What is grafatti? Some new Italian dish?

  • David on Middagh

The bike share’s a community benefit that (1) lets a few people enjoy the outdoors instead of taking the train, and (2) slows vehicular traffic to a saner speed by putting more bicyclists in the streets.

  • Clintonious Wow

Must be a great building to live in…

  • Joe A

    GET OFF MY LAWN !

  • MonroeOrange

you must be kidding me….winter, people that don’t already own a bike, will not be renting a bike…so we lose, parking and now will have to deal with these non used bikes in the winter….and before you comment, lets wait until, the winter, i will take a picture of all the unused bikes sitting there in the snow…how nice…In denmark, where this type of bike program exists, the bikes are not in the street taking up parking, they are on a normal bike rack….and why on earth, didn’t they use the park as a spot…the bridge lets out right there…Mark my words, this will be a collasal failure…i will be sure to take pictures once the first stickers and graffiti are up.

  • Bloomy

I still don’t understand why you think it is such a terrible location? Could you please explain.
