Welcome Art Institute of NY Students to Brooklyn Heights

Crain’s NY Business reports that the Art Institute of NY is moving students into 67 Livingston Street:

Crain’s : The Art Institute of New York has signed a five-year lease for the entire 41,500-square-foot building at 67 Livingston St. in Brooklyn. The 26-story Glory Capital-owned building, built in 1987, will allow AiNYC to consolidate at one location student housing that is currently scattered across Brooklyn and Manhattan. Although there wasn’t any posted asking rent, schools typically charge students the equivalent of roughly $75 per square foot for such dorm rooms.

The building—features include newly carpeted and painted rooms, a new fitness center and flat-screen television sets in every room—will accommodate 182 students, all of whom are scheduled to move in by mid-August. New York University had used the building for housing prior to AiNYC taking occupancy. NYU recently moved out.

    as someone who lives next door at 75 livingston, i can tell you that this is not good news. it’s a party dorm. the kids are up all hours blasting music, lots of pot smoke comes wafting out of the building when you walk past, the students sit in front of the building smoking, and drinking and generally being loud and sometimes rude to passers by. our block and our building are full of families. when the nyu grad students were there it was fine, but these kids are not making great neighbors.
    would love advice from anyone who has been in this situation.

    @ap:

    Have you tried contacting their school about this matter? How about the police if they’re drinking alcohol & harassing people as you claim?

    Also, you could suggest the students use herbal vaporizers for their pot. No smoke from combustion, and much better for their lungs too.
