Tried the wine bar on Henry, not too bad.

I have to get this off my chest. I’ve had two lovely dinners at Jack the Horse, and my wife took her mother there for her birthday, and the chef (the tall, red-headed balding guy) even came out to wish her a happy birthday and charmed the hell out of the two of them.

Okay, that said… I’m parking my car in front of JtheH one Sunday night and because I’ve had my car smacked by a truck coming around a corner I pull up close to the car in front of me – a silver Jeep with Jersey plates. Immediately said chef (tall balding redhead) comes storming out of the restaruant in his whites saying “Do you have to park so close to my car?” I get out and look around and, yes, I was close and, yes, there was room behind me so I could move back. So I tell him, yeah, okay, I’ll back off, sorry about that, and I tell him why I’m a little paranoid about corners, but no worries… and as I’m getting back in my car to roll back a few inches, he say, “Good, because I would have just had to hit you on my way out.”

Now, I’m pretty sure it was clear that I would have moved the car WITHOUT the threat, so I’m not exactly sure what purpose that served, except to say I don’t feel great going to a restaurant where the chef can obviously cook up a storm, but is, well, a jerk.

Maybe I should overlook it, I don’t know. But it’s weird knowing the guy who put the food on your plate would also smack your car with his Jeep.

A footnote: when I went on Tuesday afternoon to move the car, I noticed his car was still in front of mine – the one with the Jersey plates. Which means he’s either sleeping in the restaurant or he’s registered the car out of state.

Anywho, thanks for the chance to rant.

Perhaps you deserve a smack down. Nevertheless, ever hear of a garage?

    Well, for perspective:

During his early career in the kitchen, White regularly ejected patrons from his restaurants if he took offence at their comments. Similarly, when in the 1980s a city trader asked if he could have a side order of chips with his lunch, White hand-cut and personally cooked the chips but charged the customer £250 for the honour. A young chef at Harveys, who once complained of heat in the kitchen, had the back of his chef’s jacket and trousers cut open by White wielding a sharp paring knife.

I’ve never had a problem at the Court Street cinema — I think it’s pretty much on par with all of the theaters in this town. Talking about dirty, though… I stopped by the Connecticut Muffin on Montague today. Ugh. It looks like the owners haven’t cleaned the place in weeks. It’s too bad, really — The spot has potential (free wi-fi, nice space upstairs). How hard can it be to keep it in decent shape?

Jonas… apparently you and I are in a different income bracket, though we live in the same nabe.

    Whatever.

I had a wonderful snack/meal the last two nights at the Wine Bar. I tried the Kobe Burgers Tuesday night and thought they were fantastic. The sides were especially interesting plus a great sauce dip, which I understand changes every day. Last night I tried the tuna tartare . Wow.

If anyone has tried other dishes please give me a low down. I think this place is a hit.

Has anyone noticed the restaurant/retail for lease sign in the window of Sea Asian? Anyone know if the sign is for the Sea Asian location and it is closing, or is it for another location owned by the same owner?

  • statestreeter

Without knowing about the Sea Asian space specifically, sometimes a landlord slaps these signs up when a lease is ending and hasn’t yet been renewed to hedge its bets and/or pressure the tenant to re-sign at a higher rent

The Sea Asian sign has been up for months. For at least a year, rumors of a Starbucks going in have been floating.
