    I’ve asked this before, but does anyone know what happened to the tree guard that had a representation of the Twin Towers at the entrance to Squibb Park? It was removed a few years ago and replaced with a white fence.

    The signs couldn't be more clear and yet I never see a single ticket on the windshields.

    handicapped parking permit looks to be on the dashboard. i believe if they have one issued by NYCity (NOT the State) they can pretty much park anywhere.

    There are 2 Handicapped Parking Permits.

    – State of New York Handicapped Parking Permit

    – City of New York Department of Transportation Handicapped Parking Permit

    The DOT Permit allows parking in zones like "No Parking except Department of Education employees", etc and NO money in parking meters.

    In New York City "No Parking " does NOT mean No Parking.

    For example, every church or temple with a No Parking Anytime" zone is used by Clergy, Handicapped, Judges, any vehicle with a DOT placard has use of any zone first come first served.

    My least favorite placard users are the “Trooper Surgeons” who park their Porches and Mercedes G-Wagon in front of their brownstones on the north side of Pierrepont between Willow and Columbia Heights, essentially reducing a two lane street to one lane. Today there was also a car with no placard but a Maimonides doctor’s jacket and stethoscope in the front window so enforcement knows not to ticket them

    That's an impressive website. I'm sympathetic to anyone with handicap permits (I have a family member who needs one) but this BMW (of course) is one of a whole string of cars down this street. This person is just the worst offender, it seems. He's back today even farther up onto the curb.

    Ah, yes. There's one of those self-identified surgeons on the north side of Remsen near Hicks.

    The problem with the illegal parkers on Joralemon is that's a narrow street with a lot of people being dropped off in front of the Medical Arts Building all day long. Hard to see how these folks get such a pass.

    Quite possibly. But then there should be dedicated handicap spaces for them there rather than "no parking at any time" signs. If I were disabled and visiting those doctors offices for the first time, I wouldn't know that it's "safe" to park there.

    Even if you have a legitimate handicapped parking permit, shouldn’t you be ticketed for parking on the sidewalk?

    I noticed that the NYPD booth at the North end of the High Street subway platform has been removed. Not that it seemed of any great requirement. Probably, more of a "punishment assignment", than anything else.

    Seriously, you consider the wheels an inch or two (25-50mm) on the curb "Parking on the sidewalk"?

    The City of New York Department of Transportation Handicapped Parking Placard is a lot of work that includes an annual physical exam by a doctor at Bellevue Hospital, etc.

    Applicants are vetted.

    Fraudsters can be family members who use the Placard as the disabled person stays at home.

    No, I don’t. I didn’t see the associated photo when I posted that. I thought they meant the wheels were full-up on the sidewalk – as if they parked half the car on the sidewalk to stay out of the way of traffic. This is just a bad driver.

    Or maybe they were simply trying to park as tight to the curb as possible, to say out of the way of traffic.

    What did you see? Not on 9/11 but I've seen people partying with a generator, amps, electric instruments, food, drink… 3 times this summer.

    Maybe around 8 PM on 9/11.
    I would say a couple of hundred 15 to 25 year olds on skates (?), lots of flashing lights and sound effects.
    Certainly not part of a Memorial Service.
