How about that guy who paints ugly mailboxes. Did he ever get any BHB recognition?

  • Remsen Street Dweller

I nominate Roy Sloane. Cobble Hill may not appreciate him but let’s let him know that Brooklyn Heights does!

  • Teresa

I nominate Claude Scales, who almost single-handedly has maintained this blog and Homer’s legacy.

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

[Blushing] Thanks so much, Teresa. I must, however, declare myself ineligible. I think you’re deserving of recognition for your contributions to BHB and for all you do for our animal friends.

  • Boerum Bill

Pepe Montero – Owner of Montero’s!

  • Roberto Gautier

Mary Frost of the Brooklyn Eagle deserves special recognition as an indefatigable journalist who reports on the big issues of our community with great attention to detail.

  • Henry Street Person

I know I’ll get flak for this, but nominate WSW/Jeffrey Smith.

He does in reality, have a strong service record in the nabe, and while he rubs some people the wrong way, he has uncovered a lot of bad doings over the years. he’s certainly responsible for post activity on the blog. So, (no bomb threats please) I nominate Jeff Smith.

  • dave “paco” abraham

I second that nomination. He’s been active in the community for decades as a tireless leader, even when there were times that it seemed no one else wanted to make an effort. Cobble Hill would not be what it is today within his leadership.

  • Glenn Kelly

Then I will happily be the first to vote for Roy after Paco’s second.

  • Tobias Finkelstein

Totally agree, he should be on the list for sure!

  • CHatter

Second that! Captain Clean-up! (But surely he has topped this list before?)

  • CHatter

I respectfully disagree. I’m convinced by the way that WSW and JJS, though clearly of like mind, are in fact different people.

  • AKTbhmom

Roy has done so much for the communities! He gets my vote!

  • bklyn20

Yes, Roy Sloane! He’s fought for issues that affect all of us in brownstone Brooklyn. He was one of the first to advocate for Brooklyn Bridge Park, in the decades before it turned into a luxury housing development with kale garnishing the edges.
He has protected the “donut.” (Look it up.)
    Vote for Roy!

  • StudioBrooklyn

You disagreeing with the nomination or the conflation of monikers into a single entity? Just curious.

  • CHatter

I’m disagreeing with the nomination. I’m speculating about the monikers.

  • StudioBrooklyn

    Got it.

I up voted the nomination because I like its absurdity and context (ultimately trivial top ten list on neighborhood website). I would nominate some of the more beautiful and friendly neighborhood pets but I don’t remember their names or their owners’ names.

  • ToddCastilow

Yes to Roy Sloane! In fact, I’d like to informally begin the Draft Roy for City Council movement.

  • CHatter

That’s a great idea, we could fill a whole separate list of top 10 pooches (with apologies to any cat people–your cuddly pals are wisely behind closed doors, so I rarely meet them)

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

    They are the same.

  • Bill Ringler

Roy has done so much work, and spent so much time, helping Brownstone Brooklyn save it’s neighborhoods from the current ruthless, over-development. He not only deserves a nomination, he should get an award for making Brooklyn Heights a nicer place to live.

  • Bill Ringler

Second, the nomination for City Council.

  • cranberry

The people who own the building on the NW corner of Hicks and Middagh Streets for the wonderful restoration.

  • Brixtony

I checked the FBI file. Same citizen of the Republic.

  • District 13 parent

David Goldsmith. He was PTA president at PS 8 back in the first years when Seth Phillips was new there and the school was turning around. He’s president of the District 13 CEC overseeing the PS 8/PS 307 situation and the siting of the school at Dock Street. He’s given tirelessly to public education over the years and has also been a real friend to Bargemusic and to Olga when she was still alive.

  • Andrew Porter

You mean the SW corner. Alas, the owner of the building died before it could be completed.

  • Guest

Another vote for Ray Sloane and his tireless efforts for our communities over so many years.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I guess I might as well throw Sami’s name in (again, that’s Sami from Pets Emporium). He’s just such a great person to have in the neighborhood, so kind, so great with our fuzzies and our kids. His son(s) too.

I’d add to the list the Pierhouse development team but Sami is paying me more to post comments here.

  • W.R.

Roy gets my vote too. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the community for a very long time

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

    Ell-oh-ell!
