In town for the long Memorial Day weekend? There’s lots to do. After a week off, Theater 2020’s production of Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors resumes this Saturday evening, May 26, at 8:00; there will also be a Sunday matinee at 3:00. Your correspondent heartily recommends this show. More details are here.
On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, you can tour the ships docked at Piers 7 and 8, just south of Atlantic Avenue along Columbia Street. These include the Coast Guard cutter Willow and the Spanish sail training ship Juan Sebastian de Elcano, whose tall masts can be seen looming over Willow in the photo taken by your correspondent this morning. More details on ship visits are here.
Don’t forget the Zydeco Dance Party this evening starting at 7:00 on Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Park will also be hosting a free learn-to-ride class for kids, given by Bike New York, on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to noon, in the area between Pier 1 and Furman Street. These classes will continue on subsequent Sundays through June 27. More information is here.
Governors Island is a pleasant place to bike or hike, and it is re-opening for visitors this weekend. Ferry service to the Island will resume Saturday from docks at Piers 1 and 6, foot of Old Fulton Street and of Atlantic Avenue, respectively. More information about Governors Island is here.
