St. Francis College Athletics: Terrier Tip Off: Many New Yorkers are abuzz about the Mets possible run to the World Series, but in Brooklyn Heights, they’re talking about the return of the St. Francis College Terriers Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams. Terrier Tip-Off kicks off the 2006-2007 season this Friday night at 8:00 at St. Francis College. Hosted by Bobby Garcia aka “Bobbito” from ESPN2’s, “It’s the Shoes” and MSG’s, “Summer Ball”, the action begins at 8:00pm with contests, games, a DJ and Rap artist. Then it’s time to watch the players and coaches as the season officially begins. The St. Francis men’s basketball program is one of the oldest in the city, entering its 111th year. Under second year coach, Brian Nash, the team returns a core of six players including starters Allan Sheppard, Jamaal Womack, and James St. Robert and brings in what’s considered the best class of recruits in the Northeast Conference. Women’s Coach Brenda Milano starts the year with the help of new Assistant Coach Sue Wicks, the former WNBA All-Star and Naismith College Player of the Year. Nine players return for the Terriers this year including Tiffany Hill, named to the Northeast all-conference second team and Katja Bavendam, a 6’7” junior center who holds the St. Francis season record for blocked shots.
