Pussy Galore

Bella-reclining-Oct07.jpg

"Marta" writes the BHB Inbox regarding a feline rescue:

Please post a story regarding a female kitten who haunted the Brooklyn Bridge footpath in Cadman Plaza Park during late September.  She was caught on 1 October and is now living in a much safer environment (with me).  Bella has had her first vet appointment (very reluctantly) and was declared feline HIV, leukemia and worm free.  I met cat lovers (presumably coming off the Brooklyn Bridge) from all over the world while feeding/tending to her when she was still in Cadman Plaza. She was such a charmer/social butterfly that many people also fell under her spell. I know of others who were also looking after and trying to rescue her, so they must be wondering what's become of her.  I tried to inform everyone of her happy outcome by placing this announcement along the footpath 2 weeks ago.

An "announcement" was posted near the Brooklyn Bridge footpath earlier this month as well (download PDF).  Bella the Cat is now living on Pineapple Street.

54 Hicks on the Market

i-23.jpg

What seemed like the most comprehensive renovation since the Reconstruction is apparently ready to be sold.  Brownstoner reports that the owners of 54 Hicks Street have put one of its 3 units on the market for $1.975 million:

Brownstoner: 54 Hicks: The owners of 54 Hicks Street have been working on the conversion of the brick townhouse into a 3-unit condominium since early 2006 and are now bringing the finished project to the market themselves sans brokers. Of course, they had a little help along the way from Baxt Ingui Architects, themselves no strangers to townhouse renovations. Based upon DOB filings, there was three-story (if you include the basement) addition made to the rear of the building and quite a lot of reinforcing and moving of walls.

Update: "Anon" tipped us off to Brownstoner's discovery that a certain eatery is not the only cut and paster amongst us: (more…)

The classic 1923 silent screen version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with live organ accompaniment by composer-organist Bernie Anderson Jr. THRILLS AND CHILLS! The gypsy girl Esmeralda, the hunchback Quasimodo, and Hollywood's magnificent take on old Paris: here's one of the great "beauty and the beast" stories of all time. And when the amazing theatrical organist Bernie Anderson adds a whole new layer of live music and effects, the end result is a Halloween event of monster proportions…

Millman: Heights Grocery Options Stink!

Fairway.jpg

Regarding the addition of a Brooklyn Heights stop to the Fairway supermarket shuttle, State Assemblywoman Joan Millman tells the Brooklyn Eagle, “We do not have adequate grocery store options in the neighborhood, so it is my hope that the free shuttle to Fairway helps address this community’s needs."

The shuttle made its first stop in the nabe yesterday at the 55 Pierrepont senior center.

What Can Brown Do For You? Double Park!

Following in the great tradition of Heights Lowdown columns discussing parking, the Brooklyn Paper's Juliana Bunim tackles the issue of DOUBLE parking in this week's issue:

Brooklyn Paper: Heights Cars…: UPS trucks consistently double-park on residential streets in Brooklyn Heights.

“We need to keep commerce moving,” said Dan McMackin, a UPS spokesman based in Atlanta. “If we are ticketed, then that’s part of the cost of doing business. But we do train drivers not to park in marked lanes.”

But double-parking exists in and out of bike lanes, and so do those big brown trucks.
