My neighbor and I have been trying to think of the name of a closed Brooklyn Heights restaurant for years. After endless attempts, we have finally given up and cross our fingers that a reader of BHB can finally solve this caper. This lovely restaurant definitely existed the summer of 2002 (and prior). It was located on Henry Street at the corner of Cranberry Street (next to where Blue Pig Ice Cream used to be). Anyone who can remember the name
will be our hero! Much thanks to all on BHB!

    Chez Henry?

Sorry, just noticed the date. How about Balzar?

    Wow, end of an era.
The huge JW dormitory at Columbia Heights and Pineapple (the one with all of the window air-conditioners) looks rather eerie now that it’s been vacated. I wonder when the next developer will get to work on converting it.

Before the succession of higher profile venues, that corner restaurant space was for many, many years Su Su’s Yum Yum. Forget when it decamped for parts south.

I saw this weekend that the love locks have started appearing on the fences at the jetty near barge music.

They seem to have gotten pretty aggressive preventing / cutting them on the bridge, anyone see them doing the same down here?

wonder whose purview that would fall under. I think DOT maintains the bridge and is therefore responsible for those locks but wouldn’t it be BBPC at this spot? I HATE love locks.

Was it that tiny BBQ place? I can’t remember the name of that one but would help to know the cuisine

  • BKgal

I remember the restaurant and remember eating risotto there- so I believe it was Italian/American possibly. It wasn’t the BBQ place… Can’t remember the name though!!!

I think I have it!!! Does ISOBEL ring a bell to the Brooklyn Heights fam circa 2002?!

Does anyone have a tip for a great dog sitter in the area? I’m going away for a few days in July, and would love to leave my pal in the company of a reliable person that would take good care of him.

That was “Pig’N Out”, and pretty good BBQ IMHO, but I know loads of people hated it.

it’ll be interesting to see what appears in it’s place… maybe an Apple billboard?

They had a wonderful hand-painted mural on the inside walls, of course instantly painted over when the place closed and was renovated.

I’ve been away in Michigan, but I;m back, and it’s time for more ancient BH postcards.

Yes, he named it after his daughter. She must be grown up by now. Cliff was the bartender and talked about opening a food market in DUMBO and how it would be a hit. He did…Foragers Market. Great almond dates wrapped in bacon. Passionate owner.

Wasn’t there a short-lived Cuban place there back in the day? Something like Cafe El Cubanito? I remember being excited about it, then POOF, it was gone.

The Cuban place was where the Wine Bar is now. Before that it was a nice French restaurant that lasted a couple of years, and before that the “Hippie Store.”
