What drivel….no wonder every moral bankrupt and crimal type feels he can come to the Heights and do anything he wants. Just look at who are setting the outward image of the Heights.

Change the spokesmen and you’ll change for the saner, the image. And the image you allow various types to project of where you live, DOES have serious street consequences!!!

Watch who you allow to represent your vital interests folks….

  • Willow Street

I’d leave my family out of this discourse if I were you, I’d remember
    a certain web entity’s obnoxious yuppoid founder…….

  • Jeffrey Smith

I greatly doubt either you or Archie could be described as being knowledgeable of anything except in the case of Archie being prone to falsehoods and distorting my record and genuine beliefs…..none of which is important or likely for anyone to seriously react to…..but still, it shows he intellectual bankruptcy generally present today…..

We WERE discussing an important subject. Allowing this kind of street behavior ALWAYS has very serious consequences (shortly) down the road….anyone like this, along with those who allow his activities, are sendinng a powerful message to FAR WORSE types that it is just fine to come here and do anything they want…..

The Jesuit principle should apply here; if you want a stable state of social order, you have to stop wrongdoing at the FIRST instance Not when it has grown to a wildfire….with the very serious dangers that represents.

When you are finished complaining like children, YOU have to pick up the phone YOU have to dial (I know this is a supreme effort) and YOU have got to be intelligent in what exactly you say to navagate the minefield of the 911 structure and operators who are concerned with the structure and…their often unhelpful and many times obnoxious bias against higher social settings.

But if you want to really make an effort to protect your living space, YOU have to learn ..just like I and my associates did back in the 70’s.

Its about putting in a REAL effort to protect your family’s living space

  • Willow Street Watch

STC is correct that continuous pressure to decrease the current total rodeo currently above us is necessary. But all the standard critics of
the scene fall short in that they default into the behavior of general broad complaint even when a extremely inviting nerve center is fully available on which we could use our energies FAR more effectively on.

Why? Because its the amount of downside for the powers that be of their abuse to you, largely controls how much abuse they feel they can inflict or..how much they have to STP thier behavior. This is conflict dynamics 101 kiddies…..

You’ll notice that all the anti helicopter advocates very carefully avoid the entire subject of the AMOUNT of noise and discomfort is.being caused by….Federal activities. Why aren’t any of the advocates probing why are the most disruptive effects (forget noise, having your apartment vibrated at dinnertime and at 2AM!!!) give every indication of being Federal Government in origin. (Hey, if the downlinks are all on federal frequencies, why isn’t that a fit issue to be examined?) Well, not with current gaggle of ineffective noise sources on this subject…..

  • StudioBrooklyn

Nice idea but convenient to have all the free range chatter aggregated in one place, no?

  • Jeffrey Smith

Let me be ‘,honest and unbiased’ enough to ask a very basic question:

If a white man decided to go to Sands and Navy street and insult the females there, what would be the “community response”…..

Everybody reading this knows very well what would quickly happen…

I see, so because were a well behaved white community we get to be abused…(and this is just fine with everyone ” in authority” from elected officials to Mr Peepers and the BHA)…..and you wonder why fights are breaking out nation wide…just wait a little kiddos….

  • StudioBrooklyn

    This isn’t a “white community”.

If you feel an action should be taken then go and take it, or don’t, but stop trolling everyone on here. You’re being way more annoying than anyone on the Montague sidewalk.

  • Jorale-man

True. I used to like it when Homer would occasionally have themed open threads – on Heights restaurants, Brooklyn Bridge Park, etc. It helped focus the conversation (in addition to the main Wednesday thread).

  • Andrew Porter

I used to store up plastic grocery bags until I had several dozen at a time, brought them to the dog run and put them in the racks so people could use them to pick up the poo (though I don’t have a dog, live in a no-dog bldg). Finally realized no one else does this, said the heck with it.

Let them use their hands, like Paul Giamatti did with that guy on the Promenade in an episode of “Billions.”

  • Andrew Porter

Same rules as in the kid playgrounds: no admittance, unless child in tow.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Let’s turn this one over to the dog owners: need more bags in the racks? I definitely have a surplus and would rather donate to dog owners than dump them in the recycling bin.

  • Andrew Porter

The beggar who hangs out on the west side of Henry midway between Clark and Love Lane has a more expensive smartphone than I do.

At least he’s not like the guy who used to scream at people on Montague.

  • Andrew Porter

And, alas, plastic grocery bags don’t get recycled. They sit in landfills and stay there long after we’re all dead.

  • StudioBrooklyn

You mean the signs on the bins at Key Foods are lies??

  • Andrew Porter

Uh, what signs? I only believe stuff at Key that Gregory tells me, from his own unmoving lips.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Something to the effect of “recycle the unnecessarily large quantity of plastic bags we use to bag your groceries here”

  • bklyn20

Last week (Thursday) a large young man was sitting on the bench near the now-defunct shoe store (Aerosoles?). The guy yelled at me, “Look! I don’t have any shoes!” He did have socks, and no shoes were visible, but it was a bizarre way to ask for money.

I sometimes buy things for people I recognize (things like water, coffee, hand sanitizer…) Like many of the homeless population, he may have mental health issues.
Did anyone else see this guy, and do they know what his situation is?

  • Diesel

Consider this a cyber pee on you leg.

  • Diesel

Just remember it’s the canine who takes the “human” to the dog run.

  • Diesel

Yes It would be very helpful if people would donate their excess bags to the “cause”, While the bags don’t technically get “recycled” they do get a second use before going to the landfill.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Hmm maybe I should barter batches of bags for doggie cuddles… ;) what do you say, is that my ticket in??

    (Kidding.)

  • Diesel

Only if you give me a belly scratch.

  • StudioBrooklyn

If you’re a larger breed than a beagle I’ll straight up make out with you. Not kidding.

  • Jeffrey J Smith

I shouldn’t answer this but yes, you CAN generalize about the cultural and heritage character of this neighborhood. In this situation I would want to properly look into the matter before assigning any blame whatsoever. However the issue others raise IS valid generally: No woman should EVER be targeted in the manner discribed.

But when the person who even allegedly targeting someone is of a dissimilar background, it of course adds an new and ugly element which both intensifies, amplifies and exacerbates what is worst about the even alleged event.

And its, again, the old story:

No one from the Heights is going into any surrounding community and victimizing anyone. But for the last 50 years, we have had a conga line of every criminal and threatening/degenerate type imaginable doing everything to attack and endanger this community.
Who can say this is wrong; how many Heights residents are going over the Red Hook or Farragut projects and robbing or threatening anyone. The abuse has for the last half century or more BEEN IN ONE DIRECTION…always INCOMING.

  • Karl Junkersfeld

Jorale-man, thanks for mentioning John, I miss him terribly.

  • StudioBrooklyn

    “I shouldn’t answer this…”

    Then don’t.

Look, what you’re going on and on about is unproductive. Once you have an informed and accurate assessment of the problem other than frothing at the mouth at the idea of someone sitting on the sidewalk asking for money and occasionally saying rude things to people, why don’t you come up with a viable solution and then try to act upon it, and leave the blog out of it?

I contributed my opinion, that the man seems to have a psychological illness, my sentiment that I hope he gets help, and my lamentation that I don’t believe he will. That’s the end of it. I’m not chastising anyone for their views or inactions. Your conduct suggests to me that you are also affected by mental illness, and trust me, I am VERY slow to make such assessments over the Internet.

  • WUSA Brooklyn Heights

Both you and the lat two commenters should be able to understand the {very basic) reality here: you have a Heights leadership which has allowed one or two of these street gamers (and that’s what they are) into the Height by your inaction and far from reality based social views. The classic reality is you get one or two, then either other street gamers see this or, what is almost always the case these vermin begin to brag how they get over in a better neighborhood back where they come from and…NOW you have a Wave of these types FLOODING into your neighbporhood. It’s amazing that even the company here can’t/doesn’t understand this. This happened time and time and time again in the horror show this city and much of the Heights was in the 70’s and early 80’s. But because most of you have the memory and depth of judgment of a rain puddle, you have begun to make exactly the same mistakes that you did then. With easily predictable results.

Back in the 70’s we had a really nameless organization which for various reasons became known as WUSA. It swept the court area clear of serious bad guys, caused over 60 felony arrests and became an invis- ible plague on every street gamer who dared to enter the Heights. And now it appears were going to have to begin to do it all again.

  • CHatter

I don’t know what his situation is but I saw him there too, same schtick about the shoes. Later saw him get into a cab.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Yes this has become my understanding.
