Fireworks Tomorrow Night

There will be fireworks tomorrow (Thursday, April 9) evening starting at 9:45 off of Liberty Island. Thanks to Judy Stanton of the Brooklyn Heights Association for notifying us of this.

    Why are there fireworks?

There may be a good reason for fireworks on a weekday night just as many people begin the trek towards a modicum of shut-eye. Who approves such pyrotechnics? Who benefits? Who thought this through?

    ‘Tis the season. Oy!

We lay people can, too, have the same privileged access to fireworks alerts as Ms. Stanton by signing up to receive Notify NYC emails. Sorry, I don’t remember the exact steps to doing this…Google it.

Also, come on neighbors, let’s not be so grouchy and stuffy that we start bah-humbugging fireworks displays across the harbor. Brooklyn Heights is the most lovely neighborhood in the metro region, let’s try to be a part of that truth. It’s not like they’re having a Nickelback concert in front of Borough Hall.

To those of you who are wondering, my guess is that this is a privately sponsored display commemorating some esoteric achievement or anniversary or other, as is wont to happen from time to time. I could be wrong of course, and welcome input from anyone with more information.

I’m gonna be grouchy UNTIL there’s a Nickelback concert on the roof of Pierhouse (with Staind, 3 Doors Down, and Creed as opening acts), AND the stage is 3-4′ higher than was originally planned.
