The Brooklyn Heights Association has forwarded this message to us:
Below is a message received today from Community Board 2 in anticipation of flash flooding predictions by the NYC DEP:
“Due to the forecasted rain for Monday night through Tuesday night, DEP has activated its Flash Flood Emergency Plan. All chronic flooding locations will be pre-inspected. Weather conditions will continue to be monitored and staffing will be augmented as needed
“We would like to urge homeowners, merchants and commercial property managers to keep catch basin grates clear debris in order to maintain proper drainage. “Please report any flooding conditions to 311 by calling or visiting www.nyc.gov/311.”
Clearing leaves from the corner sewer grates will help to prevent basement flooding.
Even though we’re on the Heights, flooding due to clogged drains can be a problem.
