Citi Bike Share “Ambassadors” Will Be At Willowtown Fair Saturday

We’ve just been told by Willowtown Association President Ben Bankson that “Ambassadors” for the Citi Bike Share program will be at the Willowtown Spring Fair this Saturday, May 18. According to Mr. Bankson:

“Ambassadors” from the city’s new bike-share program to begin Memorial Day will be present at Willowtown’s Spring Fair on Saturday, the 18th, from 3 to 5 p.m. to introduce how the program works and answer questions about it. The ambassadors will be at a table at the fair’s site, Willow Place. One of the items to be offered in the fair’s raffle is a packet of five one-day passes to try out the system.

A totally stupid bone head idea. Get those junk piles outta here. Put them in Prospect Park or Cadman Park.

  • Wiley E.

Now, that is a good idea. Put the bike stands in parks, where people can reasonably, safely ride them.

  • Andrew Porter

    I was there, didn’t see them…

  • petercow

That’s like saying. .let’s put a bus stop in a park. They are not for leisure riding. Get that through your head.

It’s an extension of the transit network.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Are you really that dense? Don’t you understand the bikes are for transportation not for recreational rides. Also, cycling is not allowed in most parks.

  • Joe A

Maybe they couldn’t find a parking space.

  • MonroeOrange

you four…it seems to be only you four…are a real disservice to our community…you are complaining about the fact that this isn’t a “police parking’ zone..whatever that means…the truck is a mobile command station, used to coordinate police for YOUR SAFETY…you obviously don’t care about the police or safety, so therefore there isn’t much left to debate about….you would rather have a bike rack, then let the police use a location that they have been using for for DECADES!….

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Oh please, the police are not likely doing any important work from that location. They are probably parking there to eat their lunch or take a break. If that area is of logistical importance to the police or fire departments the bike rack will be moved.

  • petercow

OMG.. Not a MOBILE COMMAND STATION!

And I hope you note the irony of insisting that a -MOBILE- command station can’t move.

    LOL

  • MonroeOrange

but WHY should they have to move? we are talking about a command station in close proximity to 2 major bridges? so lets replace that with a bike rack? your obviously just arguing to argue…or you clearly have no clue what the police deal with on a daily basis…i assume its both!

  • MonroeOrange

you seem to have a bias against police…which is evident in your comment ‘they are probably there to eat their lunch’…while i assume most people working (police or not) are wasting time most of the day…let’s give police the benefit of the doubt that this truck there is serving a purpose (to all the nyc residents, even one’s as self centered as you).

  • MonroeOrange

Arch you calling someone dense really takes the cake!

  • MonroeOrange

petercow..your comments amaze me each time with your arrogance and ignorance…if this is ‘an extension of the transit network’ then why wouldn’t they be in the park where the bus stops are?

  • MonroeOrange

The slow speeds make the bikes even more dangerous as they are less agile. But regardless of the speed of the bike, a car going into a bike rider without a helmet is a bad situation. And this program has done nothing to address that situation, and is only making it worse now. Most people who use bike as alt transportation wear helmets (there must be a reason)…so again my point is why is this program creating a dangerous situation for its riders and for the city in general.

  • petercow

These locations were selected and after consulting with community boards some locations were moved/adjusted.

As seen on Remsen, if changes have to be made, they will be.

If the police say they need to be there, then DoT certainly isn’t going to make them move.

So I guess if both are there, it’s fine with DoT and NYPD.

If something has to be tweaked, it will be.

  • Joe A

Take it from someone that was in law enforcement for 20 years, it’s no big deal. They will find somewhere else to park, it was not an official police spot. Stop being such a concern troll. If the police thought it important they are not shy and would have spoken up. Your posts are getting more and more desperate.

I realize your reading comprehension is hovering around the third grade. I wasn’t calling Wiley E dense, I was asking them if they “were really that dense” thus giving them the opportunity to realize their view was erroneous and recant.
You on the other hand, are dense.
In fact, we are going to name a new element after you,

There are bus and subway stops on the side of Cadman Plaza where the Bike Share station is as well. Oh wait, did you really say the bus stops are in the park?

  • petercow

    Yes – NEVER QUESTION AUTHORITY.

In fact, let’s not even ask authority.

Not a good way to go through life.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Not bias, just being a realist. It is not like we have dire emergencies continuously occurring on the bridges, or anywhere else for that matter. Unlike you, I do not think police are “wasting time” by eating their lunch there. They need their nourishment like anyone else.
Besides, It’s probably a good spot to check out cuties on their way to the bridge ;)

“The slow speeds make the bikes even more dangerous as they are less agile”
WOW MoronOrange, you really show off your lack of intelligence with that one. Clearly, you have never ridden a bicycle, at least not since The Eisenhower administration.

  • http://www.facebook.com/molly.smoth.9 Molly Smoth

I think it’s a great idea which helps to encourage more people to cycle!

  • MonroeOrange

what? slow speeds and a heavy bike, mean bikes will be moving way to slow for NYC traffic…you said you ride in nyc (which i do regularly)…i wouldn’t want to ride a 50 pound bike with no gears..but then again im intelligent..unlike some….

  • MonroeOrange

im questioning on what AUTHORITY the bike program has to take parking, inconvenience building residents and make our sidewalks more congested! but yet you seem to argue with me only when it is convenient to you!

  • MonroeOrange

For some one who was in law enforcement…you seem to care more about bike racks than police activities…sad..sad

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Once again, you prove your profound ignorance, the bikes do indeed have gears. If you had only bothered to follow the many links provided here over the past weeks to the Bike Share website, you would know that and many other facts you continue to ignore. Alas you are the perpetual fool.

  • MonroeOrange

while i may have been incorrect about the gears…im correct about all other post…. your post are constantly rude and arrogant, while my posts are concerned about the safety of the riders and the quality of life for all residents (ie, putting racks right in front of buildings)…you can call me names, but at least i care about my neighbors (even someone as arrogant and self centered as you)….

  • David on Middagh

Get a room, you two ;)

  • Joe A

Are you always such a drama queen? Your whole, I care about my neighbors is such a load of sanctimonious bull pucky it made me throw up in my mouth.

You ask what right does the program have to take parking spaces. The same right that bus stops have in take parking spaces. The same right that subway entrances congest the sidewalks.
The bike share program is public transportation and like buses and subways, it will serve greater number of New Yorkers than those few spots where private citizens will no longer be able to store their private property on our public streets.

  • MonroeOrange

My posts have mostly been about safety of locations or inconveniencing building residents…two things which show I CARE ABOUT MY NEIGHBORS…even though you may not understand what its like to actually care about the people in your hood, as a life long BH resdient..I do…its sad you can’t comprehend that and even more sad your a neighbor who cares so little about others….sad Joe…very sad
