Axe Falls for 100 at LICH; More Layoffs May Follow.

The Brooklyn Paper reports that 100 employees of Long Island College Hospital were notified today that they are being laid off. In addition, the Hospital is eliminating another fifty currently unfilled positions.

Many more layoffs will follow if the New York State Department of Health approves the application of Continuum Health Partners, which manages LICH, to close the Hospital’s obstetrics and pediatrics departments and its dental clinic.

At a rally one week ago, borough President Marty Markowitz and other local political, civic and religious leaders decried Continuum’s proposed layoffs and closure of departments.
