Mr. J Shows He’s the “J” in Cajun.

A little rain couldn’t keep Karl and his cam away from the Zydeco Dance Party tonight on Pier 1. Watch his video after the jump to see the way to dance the two-step and hear some swampland sounds by Jesse Lége & Bayou Brew. Will Brooklyn Bridge Park Prexy Regina Myer get on the dance floor? Check it out.

Did I ever mention that I love Brooklyn Heights? A major contributor to my love of the Heights is having Brooklyn Bridge Park in our backyard and the many hours of entertainment it has scheduled this summer. For example, tomorrow, it will be a gorgeous sunny day and there is no better way to spend it than taking the ferry from BBP Pier 6 and heading to Govenors Island for the “Pig Island” event. I went last year and had a ball. If going with a mate, rent the two seater bike on the island and ride around the island, it’s a gas. On Friday’s bike rentals are free.

Sorry. I confused my events on Govenors Island, this weekend is the 5BoroPicnic. (See Below)

Summer officially begins Memorial Day weekend with the inaugural 5 Boro PicNYC, May 26 and 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This American-style picnic features burgers & dogs, tacos, salads (potato, chicken), BBQ, snack foods, shaved ice, ice cream, and homemade pies all created by select chefs from the “5 Boros.” Food events include a taco challenge, Hot Sauce Derby, and grilled cheese cook-off. This year’s community/charitable partners for 5 Boro PicNYC include City Harvest, Earth Matter, Kingsboro Community College, and Teen Battle Chef. Tickets go on sale mid-April, with more information at 5boropicnyc.com.

Pig Island is September 1st. Both events are great.

One last note, the first phase of renovation on Governors Island begins. (see link to today’s NYTimes article) Also opening this weekend is the historic Williams Castle. This is great news.

Karl, you’re a better person than I am. I had wanted to go down, but I couldn’t imagine going down there in the rain. Thanks for the video.
