    Good Morning ; )

  • Poplar

I’ve been noticing a lot of dead birds on the sidewalks these days. Anyone else? Theories?

  • Tclinton11201

2012 magnetic field – end of days?

    I’ll stick to this story!

  • GHB

Poplar, I notice lots of dead baby birds this time of year. I guess they’re rejected because they’re weak or sick and are discarded from the nest. Happens every spring…

Did anyone catch that training event over at the Red Cross building Tuesday? Had a couple of street fires burning, dummies splayed around and others shouting that they needed help. Seems OEM forgot to tell the NYFD because they came running!

  • bornhere

Luke — PD and FD were part of the training activity.

Anyone knows if the new ferry dock at Pier 1 is gonna stay permanently?

My excellent cleaning lady is looking for more work. If interested, call Aida at 347-235-7641.

  • Terry

Strange, Chuck Taylor takes photos that are of the exact same subjects I take (with a few weeks in between)!

(I think there was also a pic of the montague phone booth a while back.)

Wonder if I should be flattered!

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Isabel, can you give any guidance about Aida’s rates? We are in fact looking for someone.

terry — consider our synchronicity awfully fine taste in photographic subjects? mind you, i’m also drawing from a robust library of BH pics, since i’m never without my camera as i hike the heights… cheers, mate!

Workers are currently taking down the scaffolding on the Arlington Apartments, 62 Montague Street. I’m excited to see how the facade facelift turned out.

  • Mamacita

Is there a local resource for finding babysitters or childcare? I’m looking for a college or HS student to babysit over the summer. With so many schools in the neighborhood, I would think there are a lot of kids looking for summer work!

  • SPM

Speaking of scaffolding, what is happening with the one on the corner of Pierrepont and Willow? I’ve noticed a large chunk that has come down and I have never seen anyone working on it. Should someone be called? This was the “emergency” scaffolding which was put up at 10 o’clock in the evening several months ago.

  • Miss Montague

Actually, they are putting up scaffolding at 66 Montague, not removing it from 62!

  • Isabel

ColumbiaHeightser, Aida charges $100 for 6 hours work.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Isabel, can I email you off-line about this? Homer/Chuck, how do we privately exchange email addresses (if Isabel is okay with it)?

  • Hicks-ter

I’ll throw in a pitch for my cleaning lady, Marlene, who is great. I pay $80 for roughly five hours (I’m in a one bedroom). She’s at 347-207-6833

I live on Henry Street between Joralemon and State. I face the gardens of Garden Place and for years have enjoyed the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. A neighbor took up the drums last year and I was patient mostly because it wasn’t too frequent and the hours were fairly reasonable. This year seems to be a different story and the person is playing more frequently and at times that are beyond reasonable. For example, I went to bed last night around 10:00 and the drums were being played very loudly. I guess this is another factor. The playing is loud and constant. I am going to start with a letter — I don’t know the family, but have narrowed down the house. Is there anyone else on this blog who is in this area or has had a similar experience?

  • Terry

Chuck, do you have a Flickr (or similar) picture repository?

The heights does have a lot of photogenic areas, that’s for sure…

  • Mamacita

Willowbubb – Yes! I’m interested! email me at jen4770@gmail.com and we can chat

  • Linda Tapia

    Boo,
That would have made me crazy. I am sensitive to noise after having lived below a lunatic for two years who made noise until 3AM just to drive me crazy.Thankfully I no longer live in that building and the people in this building are very civilized!
This sounds like a “quality of life” issue. You should report it to 311 especially if it is late at night.

  • Linda Tapia

    Boo,
    Go to:
    http://www.nyc.gov

There is a “guide to New York City’s Noise Code” on that website.
Also, as stated on that website, noise complaints go to 311.

Last night I witnessed a momentous event. Two police officers stopped a bicyclist. The cyclist was wearing a helmet, had a light on his handlebars, and was riding on the sidewalk on the west side of Hicks Street between Remsen and Grace Court. Does anyone want to go there?

  • Boo

Linda — Thank you. I will go to the nyc.gov website and see what my options are. I don’t want to spend an entire summer listening to the drumming.

  • Isabel

    ColumbiaHeightster, yes, email me @
    etrinity40@gmail.com.

  • She’s Crafty

I’ll go there. Riding on the sidewalk is illegal. Glad s/he was wearing a helmet and had lights, but still – not legal to ride on the sidewalk. It’s dangerous for pedestrians, for which sidewalks were made.
