NYC Comptroller William Thompson Jr. is running for mayor. His father, a former Appelate Court Judge, is a Brooklyn Heights resident. The New York Daily News profiles the the 84 year old Thompson who is still practicing law:
NY Daily News: Mayoral Wanna-be…: “Billy’s gonna surprise an awful lot of people,” he said.
It could be just be a father’s pride – or naches, he says – but the sharp-tongued, Yiddish-spewing Democratic veteran and former judge who served Brooklyn on the City Council and as the borough’s first African-American state senator knows city politics.
“He’s a very careful reader of public opinion who is intuitive,” said Hank Sheinkopf, a longtime Democratic operative who worked on Thompson’s controller campaign in 2001, but is with Bloomberg this year. “He is very smart, a very good inside operator … Willie Thompson proves you don’t sell people short and the same can be said for his son.”
