Bike Shares Bloom on Remsen Street

New York City’s transformation into Amsterdam is moving forward, as Citi Bike Share stands are currently being installed on the corner of Remsen and Hicks. Additional stations in the neighborhood will include Clark and Henry, Clark and Montague, Clinton and Joralemon, and Borough Hall.

    the one on clark and henry is now installed too. lets get the bikes in! hopefully tourists won’t use the system… get them out of the bike lanes

    curious as to what determined that the Montague station is on the sidewalk, and the Clark St station is in the street/parking lane…the sidewalk on the Northeast side of Clark/Henry would have been ideal..

    I hate them. I can now walk out my door and see nothing but bicycles, lucky me. I’m sure we’ll see more graffiti and litter too. The idea is fine – the location is all wrong.

    I didn’t realize that our neighborhood would be inundated with bike racks and bikes. Are bike racks and bikes now a source of beautification of our neighborhood–I don’t think so. Just what is the advantage and benefit of all these bikes in our neighborhood–on sidewalks, traveling the wrong way on our streets, not obeying traffic signals and regulations. Who exactly will be monitoring this project in our neighborhood. I think this is a ghastly idea.

    completely agree – this is dangerous to park 30 pikes on a residential street that’s full of children playing and they are ugly – huge eyesore in a historic district

    They are not meant to be a source of beautification but rather a source of transportation, each one of which replacing a noisy, polluting, dangerous internal combustion engine. I think that’s a pretty good tradeoff.

    The reason is probably that placement on the northeast side would put the bikes across the street from the bike lane, which would cause problems for bikes, cars, and pedestrians.

    Interesting how no one can address my central objection: that these were put in a terrible location. I have no objection to bike stations, just not here. Arch Stanton, if I don’t see these racks covered with those marker scribblings that adorn mailboxes, lampposts, and fireboxes everywhere, I’ll gladly concede to you that I was wrong. But I doubt I’ll have to.

    I don’t particularly like cars either – my block is especially ugly on Tuesday holidays when people can park on both sides of Remsen – but that’s a hopeless fight. Now I have to contend with cars AND bikes. This is too much for a small residential street. That is my point.
