The Straphangers Campaign has alerted us to a hearing concerning the MTA’s proposed fare hikes and service cuts to be held this Wednesday beginning at 6:00 P.M., in the Trianon Room of the New York Hilton, 1355 Avenue of the Americas (between 54th and 55th Streets) in Manhattan. Another hearing will be held on Wednesday, January 28 at the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge, 333 Adams Street; we will provide more details on the Brooklyn hearing as soon as they are available. It’s crunch time for safe, decent and affordable transit.
If you are disgusted by the proposals to raise fares and slash service, the Straphangers Campaign urges you to speak at this Wednesday night’s MTA hearing.
Transit officials are proposing $2.50 base fare, $103 for a 30-day MetroCard and major service cuts, including eliminating two lines (W and Z), shortening three others (G, M and N), increasing subway wait times and crowding and eliminating or shortening dozens of bus routes.
