On Thursday, December 5, the Brooklyn Cat Cafe will open its first Winter Art Benefit show.
The show will include work from artists across the country who have donated cat-themed work, all of which will be for sale. At least 50% of all sales will be donated to support the work of the Cafe.
The Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition is the parent organization of the Cafe, and since 2007, it has rescued over 7,000 cats and more than 100 other animals, including dogs, guinea pigs, rats, rabbits, mice, and a chicken. Over 6,000 animals have been placed in permanent adoptive homes and over 1,000 cats have been TNRed (trapped, neutered, and returned to their outdoor home).
The BBAWC Rescue Clinic opened at the Cafe in 2020, providing vaccinations, exams, and other veterinary services to recent rescue. In 2021, the spay/neuter clinic began offering lower-cost options to rescuers and low-income pet owners. The Clinic has performed over 1,800 cat spay/neuter surgeries.
The Cafe’s goal is to raise $10,000 for its winter work. So come to the Cafe, hang out with some cats, buy some art (holiday gifts!), enjoy small bites donated by Marbre NYC and Felice and live music, all while contributing to the community and the Cafe’s good work.
Can’t make the opening? You can support the Cafe by purchasing the book featuring art from the show and art that the Cafe doesn’t have the space to display.
Spiral-bound books are $40, hardcover $60, and you can purchase them here. A digital copy is available for $20. Pre-orders end on Friday, December 6, with expected delivery in January.
Following the opening, the show will be on view during its regular hours from Friday, December 6 to Monday, December 16. The Cafe is open Friday through Monday from noon to 7 pm, and you can make reservations to visit here.
Tickets for the opening are $150 and include small bites, two drink tickets, and access to both floors of the cafe. Each guest will be entered in a raffle for prizes that include ceramics, prints, and a gift card for a private kitten party for six people. You can buy tickets here.
Follow the work of the Cafe on Facebook and Instagram. The Cafe is the only non-profit cat cafe in New York City.
