Robberies on Front St.; more Apple laptops stolen; and someone (or someones?) sought revenge on the River Cafe. It’s this week’s police blotter.
Apologies for the lateness of the blotter—according to my Firefox the Brooklyn Heights Blog is still down. “Yay!” I thought. “Day off!” Sadly, I checked Safari. So here we go.
If I’ve learned anything from this week’s blotter, it’s that owning Apple merchandise will get you pushed, kicked, beaten or robbed. (This, while I type from my MacBook.) I’ve been thinking of Google mapping all the Apple incidents I’ve recorded in my stint thus far as Heather Quinlan: Girl Detective. If enough people are interested, I’ll do it. If not, I’ll just keep reading DListed. Or I’ll do it anyway. This week was a doozy—beyond the usual two-laptop thefts is a one-laptop theft and couple violent iPod and iPhone robberies.
Front St. between Bridge and Gold was the site of two such incidents on May 26th. The first occurred at 231 Front St. at 12:30 p.m., when a man was approached by three thugs who pushed him to the ground, took his bag and iPod and took off on foot toward the Farragut Houses. The second was roughly 11 hours later across the street at 206 Front St., with roughly the same m.o.: the victim was approached from behind by one perp who held him while another pushed him to the ground, punched and kicked him, and took his bag and iPod.
Four nights later, a man was walking his dog over by Bubby’s when he was approached by two men— one again grabbed him from behind, while the other took his iPhone.
Across town, a woman arrived home at 381 Atlantic Ave. to find her door unlocked and her Apple laptop stolen; the rooftop entrance had been compromised. I did unofficially Google Map this one, and it’s about three blocks from where the Apple Bandit(s) struck in April and May. So everyone on State or Atlantic between Hoyt and 3rd, consider a Dell.
An 11-year-old was mugged on his way to school at 228 Dean St. A teenage boy whom the victim described as 15 and pimply asked him what time it was and then stole his cell when the victim checked. He fled on foot toward Smith St.
The River Cafe’s locker shed was vandalized last Tuesday night; employees found eight of the 50 lockers cut open and the contents thrown about. It was unknown what (if anything) was stolen. This doesn’t seem to be revenge from a customer who spent too much on Grilled Dotade Fillet. Rather, it looks like an inside job.
Scratch-offs and $100 were stolen from the Bridge Apothecary. I submit that the criminal is a granny who has lots of stockings to fill this Christmas. And that’s the blotter.
