    Considering the building is not inside the Brooklyn Heights historic district or the downtown Brooklyn historic district, why do you think it has to go through landmarks?

    Primarily, yes, any changes to the old gas company building that impact its appearance from the street has to be approved by the LPC. That includes facade and additions visible from the street. There's already an addition on top of the building, which is not protected because it is not from the defined period of significance outlined in the landmark designation. That addition can be significantly altered but that alteration, if visible from the street, would need to be reviewed by LPC. Hope that makes sense…

    To clarify further, I believe that LPC actually has the right to review the entire development because it is all on the same tax lot, however, a different level of oversight will be exercised on the portions of the site that are not the landmark.

    Recently we took our grandsons to a few birthday parties and the petting zoo is a big hit.

    Walking West on Monatague right now and got sad seeing a new sidewalk shed going up around an apt building near Clinton…but then got excited seeing the huge sidewalk shed at Montague/Henry getting dismantled. (It always feels like your neighborhood must have a certain amount of scaffolding up at all times, one comes down and of course another must go up!)

    I walked by yesterday. Glass is unbroken in door, which is still chained and padlocked. However, I did note new broken window and another window open on Promenade side.

    But new sidewalk shed has gone up on all three sides of the former Towers Hotel, now the Watermark Brooklyn Heights assisted living building.
