Veteran newscaster, Brooklyn Heights resident Magee Hickey is an accomplished classically trained flautist. She is performing with a quartet at The Watermark on 21 Clark Street at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 29th.

  • CassieVonMontague

I was hoping for a nice Christmas, but it didn’t happen.

Please cheer me up and tell me what gifts you gave and received this year.

  • Mike Suko

Golly, CVM, isn’t Xmas more about gifts like Claude’s lead column about the gardeners who GIVE to the community … rather than what you or I got or gave or didn’t get or give?!

Sorry, if I sound like a scold, but you are so perceptive most of the time. Hope, it’s just limited-daylight-“blues!” Maybe, do a little reading about serotonin or anti-SAD lights. That could be a gift from you to you that would make a world of difference!

  • CassieVonMontague

Yes, when your neighbor dies alone in her apartment, i hear anti-SAD lights really do the trick

you are the worst. never respond to one of my comments ever again.

  • Proto Plano

Hi, My Coop is currently looking for a new management company. Can anyone suggest a small to mid-size Coop management company? Preferably in the neighborhood. Thanks!

    Not tkr

Although CassieVonMontague’s name is still showing right now in the Nabe Chatter list, all her comments seem to be of the “This comment has been deleted” ilk? It would be a shame for the blog if she were no longer contributing.

  • Jorale-man

That’s odd. She usually has some of the best neighborhood news updates among the commenters. Hope it’s just a temporary issue.

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

I’m not sure why, but she seems to have deleted all her comments on BHB except for a few from 2012. I’m sorry she decided to do this. She was a very valuable contributor.

  • Karl Junkersfeld

Agree, Cassie a very valuable source of information. Look forward to her comments.

  • Willow Street

What’s with the encampment that’s set up shop at the north end of the Promenade with luggage, two glass sales counters, and junk? Surely no one in the BHA approved this. Passed by at Friday 11:30am and horrified.

Film or fashion shoot? Did you ask anyone?

Recent changes at Disqus now show a photo of the commenter, when provided, when you make a comment.

I wonder if she was worried about her privacy, and suddenly being recognized on the street.

I know one person who never wants to be photographed and has deleted all their photos from social media.

  • Effective Presenter

Maybe someone is bothering Cassie and she was forced to pull her comments and lay low?

We know a family who had a social media stalker who became more aggressive, dangerous as time went by, a private security firm has been hired to protect this woman and they were forced off ALL social media, etc, by the security firm.

    We hope Cassie is OK?

Good to know Magee Hickey is doing well after all these years.

Local media celebrities included Tom Stewart, Channel 13 is he still living in Brooklyn Heights?

  • bleh

It is a homeless guy who’s been building up an encampment for days, not a fashion shoot 🤦‍♂️. Do the police just not do anything in this neighborhood?

  • http://selfabsorbedboomer.blogspot.com/ Claude Scales

Yes, Tom Stewart and his wife, Maureen, both live here. They are excellent singers, and have sometimes sung duets at social functions.

140 Cadman is on fire, the 9th floor — lots of firefighters on scene and gross smoke

  • Andrew Porter

Okay, called the BHA and the 84th Precinct, left messages about the problem.

Seems like our neighborhoods little secret, but more parents should know- the new art and cooking school for kids on Montague right by Key Food is amaaazing. We sent our daughter there for full days all through the holidays and she had a fantastic time, was like an Italian exchange program. The teacher is wonderful, so creative and nurturing and our child was over the moon inspired. Highly recommend her classes! Its really quaint and special. Very personal experience. :)

If you were wondering if the half-finished BK Lobster on Montague will ever open, the answer is: probably no

Posted on Instagram by Books Are Magic, Brooklyn, N.Y.: “With the year coming to a close, there are two amazing people we would be absolutely remiss not to thank. Brandon and Karl are our primary UPS and USPS pals and they are truly the best in the biz! We don’t know how we got so lucky as to work with these guys, but we definitely couldn’t do it without them. Let’s hear it for Brandon, Karl, and all of the delivery workers who have trekked through rain, snow, and all nature of extreme weather to get books in your hands this year!”
