Fourth of July Fireworks Back, but Not Easily Visible from Brooklyn Heights

After a year’s hiatus for the pandemic, Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks will be back this year, and they will be on the East River. According to Ranaan Geberer in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle

There was no indication on the Macy’s site as to exactly where in the East River the barges will be situated.

However, Macy’s website did say that ‘Viewing will be available for verified, fully-vaccinated spectators from elevated portions of the FDR Drive in Manhattan with entry points at East 23rd, East 34th and East 42nd Streets.’

This is a give-away that the fireworks barges will be located well up the East River; probably, as they were in 2018, just above the mouth of Newtown Creek, that separates Brooklyn from Queens. This means the fireworks will barely be visible from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade or Brooklyn Bridge Park. As our “Song Bird NYC” suggested in 2018, “cozy up to a friend with a balcony on a high floor or rooftop access.”
