In our nary-is-heard-a-discouraging-word precinct?! What’s next? Cats riding roombas at the Bossert?

(Please don’t tell me I’m not taking this seriously enough. It’s been a tough month, week, life.)

    Poor Dumbo!

Love Lassen – and one of the now few owner-operated stores on Montague

  • BrooklynHeightzer

I too love Lassen, but I really hate Hennigs.

  • StudioBrooklyn

    I can’t tell them apart (they’re twins).

Anybody know why varous sections of the old Watchtower buildings seem to be (newly) painted gray? Yes, most of it looks like “maintenance,” but one face (a few hundred square feet) is painted in its entirety…. And does anyone know where things stand in terms of their “re-purposing” – residential??

Just in case you didn’t know, Gothamist is back.

  • StudioBrooklyn

    ℅ WNYC yes?

  • TeddyNYC

    Yes.

I hated those bilious green window frames.

The buildings between the bridges are “Dumbo Heights,” mostly offices with retail on the first floor. The high-rise “Inn” will become a hotel. You can already see the changes; a bunch of new stores and restaurants are already open.

That’s 111 Hicks, the St. George (residential) Tower, not the former hotel.

Then and Now: the NW corner of Middagh and Hicks Street in 1946. Apt there now (once real estate office) was a superette then:

It was indeed once part of the former hotel.

I’ll sniff around for ya, WOOF!

  • Karl Junkersfeld

Very cool. That is my building. Thanks for posting. It is hard to believe that tenants are paying $3500 for small one bedrooms in these tenements. Location, location, location.

  • Andrew Porter

That’s where David on Middagh used to live. He left for upstate NY in September or so last year. I don’t suppose you have his apartment now?

From the BHA: Tower Crane being erected for 280 Cadman Plaza West. NYC DOT approved the closing of the southbound lanes of Cadman Plaza West Friday night at 11 PM through Sunday, April 29th at 11:59 PM to enable the installlation of the tower crane.

Traffic will be detoured to Tillary Street, Adams Street and Joralemon Street. NYPD traffic agents will be deployed along the detour route.

Yeah, more than 40 years ago.
