I’m just sitting here viewing the last twenty plus posts and thinking; what an intelligent conversation/use of time…..!!!

“The Return of Martin Guerre” and “Deal of a Century,” odd double-feature circa 1983…

Yet you read and commented on it…

  • ykwthis alright….

No, I shouldn’t be so critical. But all this does tend to reinforce the argument that the great days of the Heights are over.

It IS really amazing that there are now clusters of ex-Heights people all over the city…there has just been a decampment of high value types to places like the 80’s UES and you find ex Height people repopulating in Murray Hill.

Dopes who think that the events and influences and basic reduction of insularity and safety of the last ten year haven’t had a profound effect are….well, divorced from any observable reality…..

Does anyone else remember the Horn & Hardart in the Heights, around at least until the early 1970s? Not on Montague, I think; could it have been Joralemon and Clinton?

Bad hair day: alas, we have lost excellent hairdresser Jessica, formerly of Van Sickel salon on Middagh. She’s gone to Le Petit Chandelier in Park Slope/Gowanus after 12 yrs in the Heights.

On a more important subject: Hey Claude, I see the prices of the “clothes” in the Oshop ad.

What I really want to know is…much $$$ What’s I see IN the oshop items are…….

what’s the deal with these dubious homemade No Parking signs courtesy of Archstone…taking up Columbia Heights from Middaugh to Vine St . Shouldn’t these be issued by the city to actually be enforceable ? Several had “illegal signs” handwritten on them .. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/64731ec3769989eb80deed33cb60e2d053c8c7ccf077ebadec0827e43c6fd11e.jpg

“I definitely saw ‘The Return of Martin Guerre’ fifteen years before it was released, which would irrefutably date it as 1968 or earlier.”

LOL, not to mention the Cinema wasn’t even there in 68…
I actually remember seeing The Return of Martin Guerre at The BHC (in 83 of course). might have even went for a Pastrami Queen sandwich afterwards, but more likely slices or a veal parm at Fascati…
